George Brown named Monmouth’s Pitching Coach

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University Baseball Head Coach Dean Ehehalt has announced the hiring of George Brown to his coaching staff as the team’s pitching coach. Brown joins the Hawks following a highly-successful amateur and professional pitching career. Brown’s four-year stint at St. John’s was punctuated with Big East Pitcher of the Year honors as a senior in addition to several other honors. His success at St. John’s resulted in being drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 27th Round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft. Continue reading

Monmouth Baseball Announces Coaching Changes

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth University head baseball coach Dean Ehehalt has announced changes to his coaching staff for the 2012 season. Jimmy Belanger, who has been the pitching coach for the past two years, has added the role of recruiting coordinator, while Rick Oliveri joins the staff as an assistant coach. In addition, Jeff Barbalinardo will begin his 17th season on the MU sideline, focusing on the outfield corps. Continue reading

2011 Preseason NEC Coaches Poll

Somerset, NJ – Central Connecticut was the last Northeast Conference baseball team to do it seven seasons ago and Charlie Hickey’s club will attempt to achieve the feat again in 2011. The defending NEC champion Blue Devils finished atop the league’s preseason coaches’ poll and are expected to capture their fifth conference crown. Continue reading

BATON ROUGE — LSU right-hander Joey Bourgeois allowed only one hit through seven shutout innings and catcher Micah Gibbs delivered two RBI as No. 1 LSU held off a late Pepperdine rally to beat the Waves, 3-2, Saturday night in Alex Box Stadium.

LSU (10-0) is off to its best start since 1997 when the Tigers started that season with a 19-0 mark. Saturday’s win was the Tigers’ 16th-straight home victory, dating back to last season.

2010 NEC Preseason Poll

NECRelease Somerset, NJ – Wagner won a plurality of first-place votes to finish atop the 2010 Northeast Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.  The league office released the results of the annual survey as a prelude to its 24th season on the diamond.

Flying high following the program’s first ever regular season conference crown last spring, the Seahawks received four top nods to finish one spot in front of defending NEC Tournament champion Monmouth and its two first-place votes.

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – During the national signing period, the Monmouth University Baseball program added eight student-athletes to its 2011 class, head coach Dean Ehehalt recently announced. Signing National Letters of Intent to play at Monmouth were Tim Bickford (Wallingford, Conn./Mark Sheehan), Frank Fantino (Nanuet, N.Y./St. Joseph’s – Montvale), Stephen Frey (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville), Jake Gronsky (Danville, Pa./Danville), Jonathan Guida (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), Andrew McGee (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South), Craig Sweeney (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) and Tom Valichka (Pennsville, N.J./St. Mark’s[Del.]).
