Clayton Kershaw’s Connection to Texas Baseball

Dodgers ace starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw is having an outstanding season with the Dodgers which will lead him to the 2014 NL Cy Young Award as the most dominant MLB pitcher. Kershaw didn’t attend Texas but has a deep connection with the Longhorns program as UT pitching coach Skip Johnson serving as Clayton’s personal pitching coach. MLB set to Suspend 20 Players; Miami Hurricanes Connected

MiamiBaseballDisappointmentFeaturedESPN.com is reporting that MLB is set to suspend 20 players including former Miami (FL) third baseman Ryan Braun and the namesake of the Hurricanes stadium in Alex Rodriguez for their connection to the Biogenesis of America clinic. Former Miami pitcher Cesar Carillo has already been hit with a suspension of 100 games in the minors in March but denied being connected to the clinic.

Former University of Miami Strength and Conditioning coach Jimmy Goins spent the last nine years with the team before being let go when the story broke this fall. Continue reading


Red Sox Lowrie gets his Stanford Degree

Steve Buckley of The Boston Herald profiled former Stanford Cardinal Jed Lowrie who recently completed his degree. Lowrie decided to sign with the Red Sox after his junior season at Stanford in 2005. He spent part of a couple of offseasons working on his degree but ended up getting too involved in baseball complete the requirements. This past offseason, he ended up taking some classes and completing his degree. Continue reading


Gabe Gross And Wes Gilmer Join Auburn Baseball For 2012 Season

Seven year Major League Baseball veteran and 2000 All-America outfielder Gabe Gross and four-year letter winner and 2011 team captain Wes Gilmer will be undergraduate assistant coaches for the 2012 Auburn baseball season, Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski has announced. Gross will work primarily with the Auburn outfielders while Gilmer will work with the infielders and catchers. Continue reading


2010 MLB Rule 5 Draft Results

Major League Baseball held the Rule 5 Draft yesterday during the Winter Meetings. If a player is selected in the Rule 5 draft, they need to be placed on a MLB roster for the next season and if they are put in the minor leagues, they will go back to the previous squad. The system was put into place to eliminate the ability for squads to stockpile young players in their system when other squads would have that player in the major leagues.  Continue reading


Jose Bautista Paving Way for Other Dominican Players

Jose Bautista single handily won my fantasy roto league.  I never would have known who he was if Pablo Sandoval weren’t underachieving so badly, but in May I became all too familiar with the Homerun Champ.

Bautista is using his elevated celebrity in a great way by recruiting Dominican players to come play college baseball in the states.  Bautista who was recruited out of the Dominican Republic by his high school coach to play at Chipola in 2000, and ended up being drafted by the Pirates in the 20th round that June.  Bautista was recruited due to the fact that he not only excelled on the field but in the classroom, and the new program he is setting up hopes to target the same type of student athletes not only from the Dominican Republic, but it also has hopes of expanding to other countries.  He is currently working with the NCAA to place players with schools. Casey Close a Behind the Scenes Star

Former Michigan outfielder Casey Close has transitioned into the agent business representing high profile shortstop Derek Jeter. Close was an outstanding player for the Wolverines hitting .440 with 19 home runs and 72 RBI during his senior campaign in 1986. He was named a first team All-American and Baseball America’s Player of the Year. He ended up being drafted in the seventh round by the New York Yankees as he spent five seasons bouncing around the minors spending parts of three seasons in AAA. Continue reading


College Baseball Players Representing in 2010 MLB World Series

WorldSeriesLogoThe 2010 MLB World Series starts up on Wednesday with the San Francisco Giants hosting the Texas Rangers. Cliff Lee (Arkansas) will take the ball for the Rangers while the Giants will send Tim Lincecum (Washington) to the hill. The best conference this season with getting players into the World Series is the SEC as they have six alums of universities. The University of Miami, UC-Santa Barbara, and LSU are the leaders in alums participating with two each. Miami has Aubrey Huff and Pat Burrell while UC-Santa Barbara has Barry Zito and Michael Young. The LSU Tigers have both Mike Fontenot and Brian Wilson participating in the fall classic. The full list is below.
