Breaking down the CCBL All-Star Game by Conference/Teams

Since the Cape Cod Baseball League announced their 2011 All-Star Game rosters on Friday, lets take a look at what conferences and college programs have had the most success this summer. The leading conference this year is the Pac-10 conference which features eight players from seven different school. Coming in second place is the SEC which has six players from four different schools. Interesting enough, the ACC and Big East conference both have four players in the game this year which speaks to how strong the the Big East over the last couple of seasons. Continue reading

Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Recap (April 22nd-24th)

By: John Lockwood

Pitching was the theme of this weekend’s MVC conference play, with several impressive performances and thrilling series being played across the Valley. In a highly anticipated match-up of last year’s conference championship, Wichita State took two of three from visiting Illinois State, getting two solid outings from their left-handed starters. In what was possibly the most exciting and tightly contested series played all season (every game was decided by one run), Southern Illinois upset the best team in the conference by taking two, on the road, from #29 Creighton—in the shiny new TD Ameritrade Ballpark. Possibly the best pitching came from the Bradley-Evansville series, where three pitchers tossed complete games—two of them shutouts. Meanwhile in Springfield, Missouri State took two of three from Indiana State in a series which saw Brock Chaffin knock in seven runs—in one game. Continue reading

This weekend’s Missouri Valley Conference action promises plenty of exciting baseball—and even a little history in the making—as four of the top five teams get set to play each other Friday night. Illinois State (24-10, 4-2) travels to Wichita State (23-17, 3-3) in a highly-anticipated rematch of last year’s MVC State Farm Tournament Championship, while #29 Creighton (26-8, 5-1)—who crack the Top 30 for the first time this season—will host Southern Illinois (13-23, 4-2) in the first ever series at the brand new TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. Elsewhere in conference play, Evansville (20-14, 1-5) will look to right its season against a struggling Bradley (19-15, 1-5) in Peoria, while Missouri State (21-14, 4-2) hopes to build off of last week’s series victory over SIU in a three-game set at home against Indiana State (19-16, 2-4). Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Recap (April 15th-17th)

By: John Lockwood

This weekend’s MVC action aimed to please the fan no matter what their disposition. If they were looking for an offensive display, they need look no further than Wichita, KS, where three Shockers players combined for 21 runs batted in—more than any other TEAM put up on the weekend. If they were looking for good pitching, they had to look no further than Peoria where Illinois State pitchers compiled a dumbfounding 26 strikeouts against Bradley hitters—on Saturday alone. The end result: Creighton sits atop the conference with 5-1 record, while Illinois State, Missouri State and Southern Illinois all sit in second with records of 4-2. Continue reading

Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Preview (April 15th-17th)

After a very exciting first week of Missouri Valley Conference play, the red hot Salukis of Southern Illinois sit atop the conference (at least for the time being) with a spotless 3-0 record after sweeping Evansville last weekend. Creighton, Indiana State and Missouri State are all tied for second with 2-1 conference records. The mid-week was not particularly kind to the teams of the Valley however, as the MVC posted a combined record of 3-7 on Tuesday and Wednesday. As well, in the four games against SEC/Big 12 teams, the conference was just 1-3—with the lone win coming in Creighton’s 7-6 walk-off finish against Kansas State. Continue reading
