Wacha, Childress Talk About Wacha’s Near Perfect Game

MMichael Wacha pitches to Joe Sever.MALIBU, Calif. — Texas A&M pitcher Michael Wacha outdueled Pepperdine’s Jon Moscot in a 4-0 win Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Through the first five and a half innings, neither pitcher had allowed a single hit. Moscot’s no-hit and shutout bids ended in the sixth inning when the Aggies took a 3-0 lead with three consecutive two-out hits.

Wacha carried a perfect game into the eighth inning until an error on a strikeout gave the Waves their first baserunner. The very next pitch he lost the no-hitter on an infield single that deflected off Wacha’s glove. The hard-throwing right-hander allowed only two hits and struck out eight in a complete game shutout.

Michael Wacha was outstanding.MALIBU, Calif. — Michael Wacha bounced back from his worst start of the season, with his best of the year and possibly his career. Wacha led Texas A&M to a 4-0 win over Pepperdine Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

After being roughed up for nine runs, eight earned, in 5 1/3 innings last Friday against Kansas State, Wacha rebounded by nearly throwing a perfect game. The 6-foot-6 junior took a perfect game into the eighth inning and finished with an eight-strikeout, two-hit shutout.

MLB.com releases 2012 Top 50 Draft Prospects

MLB.com has put out their 2012 Top 50 Prospects. As I have been saying throughout the year, the 2012 college draft class is down with only 20 included on the list. Leading the draft class is Stanford RHP Mark Appel who had an outstanding summer with the USA National Team and in the Cape Cod Baseball League. The other two college players in the Top Five are Arizona State shortstop Deven Marrero at number 3 and Florida catcher Mike Zunino at number 5.
