I know we have some new followers around this site over the past few years. I am a supporter of the new draft system with a set signing deadline across board as it is better than the old system of having kids signing on their way to the first college class. Steve Hertz who has served as the Miami Dade College Baseball coach for the last 26 seasons is set to retire at the end of the 2010 seasons. Hertz’s teams have been ranked in the top 10 nationally on 10 separate occasions (1986, ’87, ’88, ’92, ’96, ’98, 2001, ’07, ’08, and ’09). He led the Sharks in 2001 to the State and Gulf District Championship while getting a fifth place finish at the JUCO World Series.

Miami, April 20, 2009 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) baseball team is once again in the spotlight. On Apr. 17, the Sharks captured a third consecutive, and seventh in nine years, Southern Conference Championship with a 6-2 win over Indian River State College. Continue reading
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team won the first of its two scrimmages this week with a 7-5 victory over Miami Dade College Thursday night at Mark Light Field. Miami, trailing 2-1 after four, scored two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and another in the eighth to pull ahead for the two-run win.
With the Hurricanes trailing the Sharks 4-3 in the sixth inning, Ryan Jackson put UM up 5-4 when he smacked a double to center, scoring David Villasuso from second and eventually Jonathan Weislow from first following a MDC throwing error. Continue reading
