2013 Conference USA Preseason Coaches Poll and Teams

Rice senior infielder Christian Stringer was chosen as the preseason Player of the Year, while Owls junior right-hander Austin Kubitza was named the preseason Pitcher of the Year. Rice was chosen to win the league’s championship. The Owls have won either the regular season or tournament championship in each of its seven years as a member of C-USA. Memphis releases 2013 Schedule

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis baseball team has announced its schedule for the 2013 season featuring 25 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams as well as 35 home games at FedExPark.

NCBWA National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 8, today. Clemson junior infielder Richie Shaffer was named National Hitter of the Week, while Memphis sophomore left-hander Sam Moll named National Pitcher of the Week. Memphis to Join the Big East for 2013-2014 Season

The Memphis Tigers Athletic Department will hold a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to announce they will be joining the Big East conference for the 2013-2014 season. Memphis releases 2012 Schedule

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Contests against eight clubs that advanced to the 2011 NCAA Tournament and 30 home games featuring a clash with the University of Tennessee at FedExPark highlight Tiger baseball’s 57-game, 2012 slate, eighth-year head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Wednesday.

The Tiger’s potent 2012 schedule features 25 matchups against nine teams that clipped 30 wins a year ago and six tilts versus 40-win programs, Conference USA foes Rice and East Carolina. Memphis will play 18 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament qualifiers; eight of which will be played at home. Clay Greene added to Memphis Coaching Staff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head baseball coach Daron Schoenrock announced Friday that former East Tennessee State coach Clay Greene will join his coaching staff as the Tigers’ hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.

“I can’t begin to express my excitement to bring Clay Greene to the University of Memphis,” Schoenrock said. “I have known Coach Greene since his playing days at Cleveland State Community College and have thoroughly enjoyed following his playing and coaching career. Memphis Head Coach Daron Schoenrock Awarded Two-Year Contract Extension

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After guiding the University of Memphis baseball program to its fourth 30-win season since 1995, head coach Daron Schoenrock was awarded a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the helm of the program through the 2012-13 season.

“We have recommended that Coach Schoenrock’s contract as head baseball coach at the University of Memphis be extended for two years,” athletics director R.C. Johnson said. “The squad was very competitive this season with several notable victories, and with the completion of FedExPark we see no reason why improvement in Tiger baseball should not continue for many years.” Read the rest of this entry »
