NCBWA Releases 2011 Stopper of the Year Watch List

Wichita, Kan. (NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the seventh annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Tuesday.

Top 100 Countdown: 60. Matty Ott (LSU)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 60 with LSU junior RHP Matty Ott. The Chamette, Louisiana native played his interscholastic days at Holy Cross High School where he has a great senior year which saw him go 9-2 with a 1.97 ERA, 16 walks and 87 strikeouts in 67.2 innings. He picked up several awards in 2008 including: LSWA All State First Team Class 4A, New Orleans Times Picayune All Metro Team, MVP of District 9-4A and was selected to play in 2008 LHSCA All-Star Game. 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game Random Thoughts

CCBLAll-StarGameLogo The College Baseball Blog covered the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game for the third straight summer and second straight at Fenway Park. The Western Division used a strong group of pitchers to grab a 5-0 victory over the Eastern Division in front of 10,470 fans. Arizona State’s Zach Wilson was named the Western Division MVP after going 1-5 with an RBI double while Caleb Ramsey was named the Eastern Division MVP as he went 2-4 with an RBI. Tyler Ray from Troy got the win while Kentucky’s Braden Kapyten got the loss after giving up a run in the fifth inning without giving up a hit. Here are some of my thoughts on the game in no particular order.

2010 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game Players to Watch

MattyOttLSU Here are my Top 10 players to watch in tomorrow’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game at Fenway Park. The CCBL All-Star game is considered by many as the premier summer league All-Star game. The league has had 826 players proceed onto MLB careers. In 2009, the CCBL had 217 alums in the Majors while 234 Cape Leaguers were selected in the 2009 MLB Draft. 2010 Cape Cod All-Star Game Rosters Released

CCBL_ASG_Logo_2010_250 The marquee collegiate summer league all-star game will take place on July 28th from Fenway Park in Boston Massachusetts with the Cape Cod Baseball League All Star Game. The Cape Cod Baseball League recently announced the 2010 All-Star Game rosters which feature some of the best pro prospects for the 2011 MLB Draft. The College Baseball Blog will have a Live Blog from the game with TCBB Senior Writer Katherine Cornetta joining TCBB editor Brian Foley in covering the event.
