We continue the countdown today at number 35 with South Carolina redshirt junior RHP Matt Price. The Sumter, South Carolina native attended Sumter High School where he had a solid senior year going 7-4 with a 0.40 ERA. He was listed by Baseball America as No. 3 best high school draft prospect out of state of South Carolina for 2008 as well as the No. 20 best overall draft prospect for the state of South Carolina. WICHITA, Kan. – One of the youngest groups in the decade-plus history of selections, the 12th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason All-America team has a strong element of 2011 NCAA World Series returnees and loads of exceptional 2012 season sophomores and juniors.
After back-to-back NCAA titles for South Carolina and numerous defections to the professional ranks in ‘11, the 2012 projected team may be a mini-view of the NCAA World Series next June. Continue reading

I am a supporter of the new draft system with a set signing deadline across board as it is better than the old system of having kids signing on their way to the first college class. Wichita, Kan. (NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the seventh annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Tuesday.

We continue the countdown today at number 54 with South Carolina Redshirt Sophomore Matt Price. Price hails from Sumter, SC, where at Sumter High School he was part of the 2008 AAAA All-State Team, where he had a 7-4 record and a 0.40 ERA. Even though he hasn’t started a game for the Gamecocks, Price once pitched a 17 strikeout no-hitter at the World Bat Championships in Jupiter, Florida, in 2006. In that same year, he helped lead his Sumter High School team to a South Carolina State Championship.
