Kent State salvages final game with Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 23rd-ranked University of Louisville baseball team was unable to complete a sweep of visiting Kent State, falling to the Flashes 9-0 Sunday in Jim Patterson Stadium.

The game was a pitchers duel through the first six innings.

Cardinal starter B.J. Rosenberg retired the first eight of the game before Jared Bartholomew hit a 2-1 pitch out to center to give the Flashes their first lead of the series, 1-0 in the third inning. Continue reading

The Huskies (3-9) held a 7-5 advantage before the Patriots (10-4), who received votes in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, mounted a comeback keyed by a five-run seventh inning. FULLERTON, Calif. – The 21st-ranked University of San Diego baseball team scored four unanswered runs in picking up a 6-2 win over No. 16 Cal State Fullerton Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at Goodwin Field.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 8-7 overall and improve to 6-1 against ranked opponents this season. With the loss, the Titans fall to 8-5, suffered their first home loss of the season and saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Continue reading

The Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Charly Bashara improved to 1-0 on the season after outdueling the Broncos’ Ethan Hollingsworth.

Bashara finished with a final line of six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts and no walks, making it the second straight day that the Huskies were able to silence the heavy-hitting Bronco lineup. Senior Bobby Carrington was strong for out of the ‘pen for the Huskies, tossing three scoreless innings to pick up the save. Continue reading

Sophomore Sheldon McDonald threw eight shutout innings of five-hit, nine-strikeout ball and did not walk a batter, as he led the Huskies to a 5-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday afternoon at IMG Academies in BRadenton, Fla. Western Michigan entered the game having scored at least 15 runs in three of its last five games, but McDonald kept the Bronco bats silent all afternoon. Continue reading

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida Bulls ended their two-game skid with a 9-8 victory against the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday night at Red McEwen Field.

USF improves to 3-2 on the season while the Wildcats drop to 3-3.
