Sophomore, St. Paris, Ohio (St. Paris Graham)

Green catcher had his best week and weekend of the season hitting safely in all four games as the Falcons took two of three games from Akron to win the league title after having played Oakland mid-week. Schlater played the last two innings of the Oakland game and had one hit, a single, in two at-bats. Continue reading

Brandon Besl, Ohio, 3B

In the three-game series at Miami over the weekend, Besl went 10-for-15 with two doubles, four home runs, six RBIs and eight runs scored. He tallied his first multi-homer game of the year Friday (and second of his career) with two round-trippers, while collecting at least three hits and a homer in every game at Miami. Besl tallied two multi-RBI games at Miami and scored at least two runs each game over the weekend. For the week, the senior totaled 27 bases and had an on-base percentage of .583. He had just six homers entering the week, but finished the week with 10 on the year. Besl also extended his hitting streak to a career-long 15 games with at least one hit in all five games this week. The Bobcats took two of three at Miami over the weekend, the third straight year Ohio’s won the series with the RedHawks. Continue reading

Adam Skonieczki, Buffalo, CF
Junior, Endicott, NY (Union-Endicott)

For the week, Skonieczki batted .455 with a pair of doubles and triples and two stolen bases. Skonieczki’s efforts at the plate and his twenty putouts in center field, helped the Bulls win their conference weekend series over #23 Kent State while tying the program mark for most wins in a season (19) since the the Bulls’ reinstatement in 2000. Derek Spencer, Bowling Green, Third Base
Junior, Oregon, Ohio (Clay)

Spencer had at least two hits and homered in every games last week as the Falcons won their series wtih Miami and went 3-1 on the week. Spencer was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three runs scored in non-league win over Toledo. He was 4-for-4 with two solo home runs and four runs scored in the series opener with Miami. Rob Lawler, Buffalo, First Base
Junior, Greece, NY (Santa Fe CC)

In the Bulls doubleheader versus Big Four rival Niagara University, Rob Lawler went a combine 4-for-6 with three RBIs and six runs. In the opening contest of the Bulls’ weekend conference series with Western Michigan, Lawler went 3-for-4 with an RBI. In the second game of the weekend series, the Bulls jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with the Bulls getting on the board off an RBI-triple by Rob Lawler. Heading into the bottom of the fifth ahead 2-0, the Bulls began to build on their lead with a five-run effort. Lawler continued to add RBIs to his totals by poking a two-RBI double down the right-field line to extend the Bulls’ lead to 7-0. In the finale, Lawler finished by driling a two-RBI triple to give the Bulls an 8-3 lead in the contest. Continue reading

Junior, Deshler, Ohio (Patrick Henry)

Krauss had a monster week, belting five home runs in as many games during the week, giving him six homers in his last six games and moving him into a tie for ninth on Ohio’s career home runs list with 31. Five of his eight hits left the park for a slugging percentage of 1.211 and he walked four times, moving him into fifth place on Ohio’s career walks list (102), while helping him to an on-base percentage of .522 for the week. He recorded his third multi-homer game of the year in game two Saturday, a 15-7 Ohio win over Toledo. Continue reading

MAC Announces Baseball Players & Pitchers of the Week

Tommy Nurre, Miami, First Base
Senior, Cincinnati, Ohio (St. Xavier)

Nurre led Miami to a 4-1 week, including the RedHawks’ first series sweep since April 27-29, 2007. Miami outscored its opponents 55-24 over the five-game week. Nurre was 11-for-20 for the week (.550) and recorded 10 runs and six RBIs while drilling six extra-base hits (four doubles and two home runs). He recorded an impressive 1.050 slugging percentage. MAC Players of the Week (March 23rd)

East Division Player of the Week
Gauntlett Eldemire, Ohio, CF
Sophomore, Shaker Heights, Ohio (University School)

Eldemire started all three games this weekend vs. Central Michigan and crushed three home runs, including his first-career multi-homer game Sunday when he hit a three-run bomb in the second frame and his first-career grand slam the following inning. He registered multiple RBIs in all three games, including a career-high seven in Sunday’s series-finale win. Continue reading

Greg Rohan (Kent State)

MAC East Division Player of the Week
Greg Rohan, Kent State, Infield
Senior, North Lima, Ohio/South Range

Rohan had a career-high five hits and seven RBI in six at-bats and also scored a game-high four runs in the series finale against UNC Greensboro. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth and had his first career grand slam in the seventh. With the two home runs in the game, Rohan is currently tied for fifth in KSU history with 35 home runs. He finished the week with a .588 batting average, 1.059 slugging percentage, nine RBI’s, six runs and two homeruns. Continue reading
