2013 Chapel Hill NCAA Regional Day 2 Recap

BOCA RATON, FL – Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team, ranked No. 23 nationally by Baseball America, used the strong arm Austin Gomber, who moved to 8-4 on the season, and the hot bats of seniors Nathan Pittman and Corey Keller to defeat Canisius 14-6 in Saturday’s elimination game of the Chapel Hill NCAA Tournament. The victory improved FAU’s record to 40-21 on the season, the fourth time in 10 seasons and the first under the direction of Head Coach John McCormack that the Owls have posted at least 40 wins.  Read the rest of this entry »

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior righthander Mike Volpe earned his tenth victory of the season and senior catcher Andrew Parker blasted a monstrous three-run homer as the Tigers (30-28) continued their magical post-season with a 7-2 victory over No. 23 Florida Atlantic (39-21) in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament at Boshamer Stadium on Friday afternoon. 2013 Chapel Hill NCAA Regional Preview

UNCFeaturedImageThe (1) North Carolina Tar Heels will host their double-elimination regional on Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium starting on Friday, May 31st and ending on either June 2nd or June 3rd if necessary. Joining the Tar Heels will be (2) Florida Atlantic, (3) Towson, and (4) Canisius who will make for some formidable match-ups at Chapel Hill. The winner of this regional will play the winner of the Columbia (SC) regional hosted by (1) South Carolina with (2) Clemson, (3) Liberty, and (4) St. Louis. 2013 NCAA Regional Projections (April 17th)

13regionalprojections_smAs we’re now well into the 2013 college baseball season, College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to Selection Monday with our latest 2013 Regional Projections.

For this week’s projections, instead of being solely compiled based on RPI like they have been done in past weeks, every aspect was taken into consideration. College Baseball Daily’s Ginger Poulson (@gingerpoulson) compiled this list after analyzing RPI, overall records, conference standings, overall talent and several other factors. 2013 MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll

MAACLOGOEdison, N.J. - Manhattan College has been chosen as the favorite to win the 2013 MAAC Baseball title, according to a preseason poll voted on by the league’s nine head coaches.

A close vote had Manhattan top the poll with 74 points followed by Canisius College with 72. Rider University was picked third with 59 points, while Marist College was fourth with 57. Fairfield University finished with 48 points, followed by Siena College (31), Niagara University (29), Saint Peter’s University (18), and Iona College (17). Read the rest of this entry »

Manhattan releases 2013 Schedule

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan College baseball team is slated for a challenging 54-game 2013 campaign, which features season opening series at southern powers Florida International and Florida Gulf Coast. The two-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion Jaspers will also take on members of the Big East in 2013, in addition to a match up with 2012 College World Series participant Stony Brook. Matt Duval named Assistant Coach at Siena

Matt Duval has been hired as the new volunteer baseball assistant coach at Siena College. Duval spent the last three years as the recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.

Columbia Regional: Game 3 Recap

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Jacob May scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and delivered a three-run home run in a six-run seventh Saturday as Coastal Carolina beat Manhattan, 11-1, in an elimination game at the Columbia Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
