LSU-Shreveport opens 2009 with fireworks

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots, ranked #17 by Collegiate Baseball (#10 by CBB), had batting practice at the expense of the U. of Mobile Rams (#11 by  Collegiate Baseball). They won both ends of a double-header at U. of Mobile, 14-8 and 22-1.

Senior C Brent Lavallee, of North Delta, BC, had a huge day for the Pilots. He hit five home runs and 27 RBI.

RHP John James of Tucson, a transfer from Utah, got the win in the first game, which was scheduled for seven innings. LHP Justin Ennis of Big Sandy, TX went the distance in the second game, shortened by the mercy rule to seven innings. Ennis held the Rams to three hits. CBB’s NAIA Pre-season Top 10

The 53rd NAIA baseball season starts on Friday, with Belhaven at Spring Hill (Mobile, AL), La Sierra at Concordia-Irvine, LSU-Shreveport at U. of Mobile, Bethany (CA) at San Diego Christian, Wayland Baptist at Texas-Brownsville, and Patten at The Master’s (Santa Clarita, CA). Western Major Baseball League playoffs enter second round

The Division Finals of the Western Major Baseball League start on Thursday, August 7, and the matchups are the Sherwood Park (AB) Dukes vs. the Okotoks (AB) Dawgs, and the Regina (SK) Red Sox vs. the Swift Current (SK) Indians.

The Dukes are led by Dan Grant (Northern Iowa; .403, 4 HR, 38 RBI) and Casey Barnes (Kansas Wesleyan; 5-4, 2.76 ERA, 67 K). They defeated the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets three games to one in the first round.

The Dawgs have Manny Kumar (Grambling State; .336, 3 HR, 28 RBI) and Jake Bottari (College of Idaho; 5-0, 0.84 RBI, 43 K). They swept the Lethbridge Bulls in the first round. Continue reading Western Major Baseball League playoffs enter second round
