(www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty’s and Coastal Carolina’s baseball programs have been chosen as the favorites in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason poll for the 2013 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Campbell’s Michael Felton and Jeff Kemp of Radford the Conference’s Preseason Co-Players of the Year, while Aaron Burke of Coastal Carolina was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Jon Benick named Assistant Coach at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood University baseball head coach Buddy Bolding has announced the recent appointment of Jon Benick as a new assistant coach. Benick will assist with all baseball operations, including recruiting. George Mason, Longwood Announce 2010 Schedules
Head coach Bill Brown has released the 2010 George Mason baseball schedule. The Patriots will play thirty one home games at Spuhler Field this season, including twelve CAA contests.
George Mason will begin the season in Rock Hill, South Carolina, as they play a double round robin tournament with Northwestern and Winthrop (Feb. 19-21). The following weekend the Patriots will have their home opener, as they host Monmouth (Feb. 26-28) for a three game set.
Brian McCullough named Assistant Coach at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood University 32nd-year baseball head coach Buddy Bolding has announced the recent appointment of former starting pitcher and team captain Brian McCullough as a new Assistant Coach. He previously has played professionally for the past three seasons in the independent Frontier League. McCullough was a four-year starter for the Lancers (2004-07) while majoring in business management. He will serve as the program’s pitching coach while also assisting with all baseball operations, including recruiting.
CAA Weekend Preview
With two weekends left, the playoff picture hasn’t become any clearer in the Colonial. No. 27 George Mason clinched the top seed in the conference with a sweep of Northeastern last weekend. The Patriots, along with third place James Madison, are off this weekend. Here’s a glance at the other teams in action.

Two more 2009 College Baseball Schedules
The CBB is committed in bringing the very best content to the site. Today we have two schedules, Big Ten Iowa Hawkeyes and the Longwood Lancers, a Independent participant. We also have the fall schedule for Monmouth.
Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa finished at the bottom of the Big Ten last year and will be looking to improves on those numbers in ’09. Head Coach Jack Dahm and the Hawkeyes will kick off the 2009 campaign in the Big East/BIG Ten Challenged the weekend of the 20th of February. Iowa will face BIG Ten foe Illinois on Friday, Saturday they will square off against St John, then they will wrap it up with a contest against Georgetown on Sunday the 22nd of February.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second time in the last four games, a walk-off home run propelled No. 1 Miami to a win. Junior left fielder Dave DiNatale sent the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the 11th over the fence in left field as top-ranked Miami walked off with a 4-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday night at Mark Light Field. George Mason 5 Towson 4
Towson, Md. – The George Mason baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon when the Patriots scored five runs in the first three innings and then held off Towson over the final six as Mason beat the Tigers, 5-4.
Mason scored in the first when Chris Henderson and Justin Bour hit two-out singles and Scott Krieger brought home Henderson with a single to left. Towson tied the game in the bottom of the inning behind a walk and a double. Mason took the lead for good in the second behind the game’s lone error. Read the rest of this entry »

MIAMI, Fla. – Sophomore right-hander David Gutierrez no-hit Florida International for the first three innings and No. 2 Miami erupted for 11 runs during those innings as the Hurricanes cruised past the Golden Panthers, 13-2, at University Park Wednesday night. North Carolina hit six homers including two from Benji Johnson to give the Tar Heels the 28-3 victory over Davidson. UNC scored eleven runs in the second inning and then twelve in the third to take full control of the game. UNC will be back in action on Friday when they host Wake Forest.

Maryland 12 Coppin State 0
The Maryland Terrapins held Coppin State hitless and used a balanced attack by scoring in seven out of their eight at bats to continue the Coppin State losing streak to 20 games. Mike Murphy went 2-4 with 3 RBIs to lead the Maryland offensive attack. Brett Curll, Tim Kearney, Brett Jones, and Nick Pearce all went two innings without allowing a hit while Brian Shellhamer pitched a perfect ninth to complete the no-hitter. Maryland will visit Georgia Tech this weekend for a big ACC series.

Virginia 4 Longwood 3
Brandon Marsh hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Cavaliers to a 4-3 come from behind victory over Longwood. Casey Lambert struck out 2 batters in the top of the ninth to pick up the victory for the Cavs. Virginia will travel across the state to Virginia Tech for a weekend series.
Clemson 15 Western Carolina 6
The Clemson Tigers blew out Western Carolina 15-6 in non-conference action on Wednesday in Clemson SC. Taylor Harbin and Doug Hogan led the offense with three hits a piece. Clemson will return to action on Friday when they host the Hurricanes.

The NC State Wolfpack received a stellar pitching performance from Nate Karns, Jeff Stallings, and Sam Brown who combined on a three hit shutout. Caleb Mangum and Pat Ferguson each picked up two RBIs to lead the offense. NC State heads to Chestnut Hill to open the BC home schedule this weekend and The College Baseball Blog should be there on Saturday and Sunday.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets used nine pitchers and were able to limit the Georgia Southern Eagles to two runs. Danny Payne and Michael Fisher were the only two Yellow Jackets with two hits on the day. Georgia Tech will host Maryland this weekend for a big ACC series.

Winthrop 15 Wake Forest 9
The Winthrop Eagles used a ten run fifth inning to pick up a 15-9 slugfest victory over Wake Forest on Wednesday. Winthrop will visit UNC-Asheville while Wake Forest heads to UNC for a big ACC weekend series.
