Cape Cod Baseball League Top Performers for July 4th

Athletics Department Here is your Cape Cod League Recap for July 4th. The best performance at the plate came from Tyler Bream of Liberty who went 5-6 with a run scored and drove in six runs for the Wareham Gatemen in a 15-4 victory over the Bourne Braves. The pitching wasn’t fantastic tonight at all with Luke Bard and Jarred Hippen having the best nights.

Cape Cod League Top Performers for July 3rd

GagnonLBSU Here is your Cape Cod Baseball League Recap for July 3rd. There was a blowout tonight at the Bourne Braves defeated Falmouth 17-3 as Tennessee’s Steven Gruver gave up 10 runs (five earned) and nine hits in only 2.1 innings. The best night at the plate was by Matt Newman from Arizona State as he went 3-4 with a double for the Orleans Firebirds. Andy Burns from Kentucky also had a solid night for Brewster as he went 2-2 with 3 RBI. There was no real outstanding performances on the mound with Andrew Gagnon from Long Beach State going seven innings, giving up five hits, and one run while striking out 8 as his Brewster Whitecaps defeated Orleans 6-2. Cape Cod League Top Performers for June 27th

C.J.CronUtah Here are the Top Performers from the Cape Cod Baseball League for Sunday, June 27th. The best game by a position player was by Utah’s C.J. Cron who went 4-4 with a double and a run scored against Harwich. The best pitching performance came from Andrew Gagnon of Long Beach State who pitched seven inning giving up only two hits and one walk while striking out nine batters.

Long Beach State’s Mike Weathers Announces Retirement; Troy Buckley to Take Over

Long Beach, Calif. – Long Beach State head baseball coach Mike Weathers has announced his retirement from baseball effective at the end of the 2010 season.

“After 18 years at Long Beach State, nine as an assistant and nine as head coach, I feel it is time to step aside and let someone else lead the program,” Weathers said. “I’ve wanted to spend more time with my wife, Charlotte, my daughters and my grandson and this will allow me to do that. I’m anxious to start the next stage of my life and I am excited to continue to watch the Dirtbags compete for championships.”

Cal State Northridge’s Ryan Pineda and Long Beach State’s Steve Tinoco earned Big West Baseball Co-Field Player of the Week honors after outstanding performances at the plate.

Pineda led the Matadors to three wins against West Coast Conference teams by hitting 6-for-15 (.400) with four runs scored and three RBI.  He added four stolen bases in the three contests.

2010 Big West Preseason Poll

ChristianColonCSF Following a season that once again concluded in Omaha, Neb., at the College World Series, Cal State Fullerton was selected to capture the 2010 Big West Baseball Championship, a title they lost to UC Irvine last season, according to the Big West Conference preseason poll conducted by the league’s nine head coaches. The Titans, who have claimed at least a share of seven of the last 11 titles and a conference-best 14, nabbed seven first-place votes for a total of 79 points and were followed by defending conference championship UC Irvine, who picked up two first-place votes en route to a 71 point total. Rounding out the top three were the Cal Poly Mustangs, sitting third with 60 points.
