MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 2 today. Liberty’s junior infielder Ryan Seiz was named National Hitter of the Week, while Maryland’s senior right-handed pitcher Jake Stinnett was named National Pitcher of the Week. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty and Coastal Carolina have been chosen as the favorites for the second-straight year in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason baseball poll for the 2014 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Charleston Southern’s Bobby Ison the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, while Ryan Thompson of Campbell was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. We continue the countdown today with number 66, Liberty RHP/OF Ashton Perritt. In his sophomore campaign with the Flames, Perritt was able to post impressive numbers both at the plate and on the mound. In the batter’s box the right-hander had 172 at bats and in that time batted to a .343 average. The talented outfielder appeared in 40 games and collected 59 hits with 6 homeruns and 17 RBI. On the mound, Perritt was equally as impressive posting a 3-2 record with a 2.09 ERA. In 22 appearances, Perritt had 38.2 IP with 37 strikeouts and 10 saves which ranks second on Liberty’s all-time single season save list. Continue reading

LYNCHBURG, VA. – Ten games against 2013 NCAA Regional teams highlight the defending Big South Champion Liberty Flames baseball team’s 2014 schedule, which was released today by the program.
Coming off a year in which Liberty (36-29) advanced to its first NCAA Division I Regional final in program history and won its first Big South title since 2000, the Flames are slated to face NCAA Regional participants Coastal Carolina, Elon, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and UNCW during the 2014 season. South Carolina 6 Liberty 4 (Final)
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina defeated Liberty 6-4 on Monday afternoon to claim the NCAA Columbia Regional title at Carolina Stadium, securing the program’s fourth straight trip to the Super Regionals.
It will be the Gamecocks’ (42-18) 11th trip to the Super Regionals in the last 14 years, which ranks second in the nation behind Florida State during that span. The win is South Carolina’s 27th-straight postseason win at home, including a 16-0 mark at Carolina Stadium. Continue reading
Liberty 3 Clemson 1
A strong effort by Liberty starting pitcher Trey Lambert and four hits by second baseman Bryan Aanderud, helped push the Liberty Flames past the Clemson Tigers, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in a Columbia, S.C. Regional elimination game at Carolina Stadium.
Lambert moves to 8-3 on the year, allowing one run on seven hits during his 7 2/3 innings of work. He struck out one and walked two batters. However, the key for the right-hander was that he stranded two Tigers at third base and three at second base. Continue reading
Clemson 10 St. Louis 2
Columbia, SC – Steve Wilkerson hit two homers with five RBIs and Daniel Gossett pitched 6.0 effective innings to lead #17 Clemson to a 10-2 win over Saint Louis in the Columbia Regional in front of 5,485 fans at Carolina Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who evened their record in the regional at 1-1 and snapped their six-game losing streak, improved to 40-21 on the season. The Billikens, who went 0-2 in the regional, ended their season with a 41-21 record. Continue reading

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Catcher Trey Wimmer knocked in a career-high six runs and right-hander Josh Richardson pitched his third complete game of the year, leading the Big South Champion Liberty Flames past the Clemson Tigers, 8-3, in Game 1 of the NCAA Columbia, S.C. Regional at Carolina Stadium.
Wimmer drove in a career-high six runs with two hits, a two-run double and three-run home run to go along with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Playing in his home state, the Greenwood, S.C., native connected for his fifth round tripper of the year in the sixth inning to give Liberty a five-run cushion at the time. Continue reading
