CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior left-handed pitcher Dan Weigel pitched a complete-game four-hitter and did not allow a run over the final eight innings in leading the Bucknell baseball team to a 5-2 NCAA Regional victory over Liberty Saturday afternoon at Davenport Field. It was the second NCAA postseason victory for the Bison, who equaled the program record for wins in a season as they improved to 31-20-1 on the season. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball team opened the 2014 NCAA Tournament with a 10-1 victory over Bucknell in the Charlottesville Regional Friday (May 30) at Davenport Field.

One of the most tested teams in the tournament, Virginia (44-13) has played nine teams that made it to this spring’s field of 64. Ranked between from three to four in the national polls, Brian O’Connor’s team has been impressive, but saw their bid for the ACC title get cut short with a 6-4 loss to FSU on Saturday. Liberty’s junior infielder Ryan Seiz was named National Hitter of the Week, while Maryland’s senior right-handed pitcher Jake Stinnett was named National Pitcher of the Week. In addition, the coaches voted Charleston Southern’s Bobby Ison the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, while Ryan Thompson of Campbell was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. We continue the countdown today with number 66, Liberty RHP/OF Ashton Perritt. In his sophomore campaign with the Flames, Perritt was able to post impressive numbers both at the plate and on the mound. In the batter’s box the right-hander had 172 at bats and in that time batted to a .343 average. The talented outfielder appeared in 40 games and collected 59 hits with 6 homeruns and 17 RBI. On the mound, Perritt was equally as impressive posting a 3-2 record with a 2.09 ERA.
