This weekend was the final weekend of Patriot League action as Bucknell clinched the number 1 seed for the Patriot League tournament while Army is the number 2 seed. Holy Cross is the third seed while Lafayette rounds out the field as the number 4 seed. The opening round of play begins on May 9th when Bucknell hosts Lafayette while Holy Cross heads to Army. EASTON, Pa. – J.T. Watkins, Joey Henshaw and Kyle Fleming homered and Matt Fouch fired six shutout innings as the Black Knights clinched their fifth Patriot League Tournament berth in six years with a 12-2 defeat of Lafayette in the first game of the teams’ doubleheader, Saturday afternoon at Kamine Stadium.
Lafayette fought back from an early 4-0 deficit to register a 14-8 victory in the nightcap. Despite the loss, Army remains in the hunt for at least a share of a second consecutive regular season Patriot League title. Continue reading →

WORCESTER, Mass. – The start of Bucknell’s four-game baseball series at Holy Cross was delayed one day, but it didn’t seem to bother the Bison, who swept a doubleheader from the Crusaders on Sunday at Fitton Field. Bucknell claimed game one by a 2-1 score behind a complete game four-hitter from Trey Frahler (Northfield, Ill./New Trier). In the nightcap, the Bison pounded out 14 hits and received three runs batted in from both Doug Shribman (Marblehead, Mass./Belmont Hill School) and B.J. EASTON, Pa. – Lehigh pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh to erase a 3-2 Lafayette lead and hold on for a 4-3 win in Patriot League baseball action on Saturday at Kamine Stadium. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but played just one seven-inning game, as the start of the first contest was delayed until 2:35 p.m. because of rain. Continue reading →

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Junior third baseman Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) went five for eight with three home runs and six runs batted in, to lead the Holy Cross baseball team to a sweep of Army in a doubleheader at Doubleday Field. The Crusaders won the first game 11-2, then posted a 10-4 victory in the nightcap. LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell smashed five home runs and received a pair of strong pitching performances as it swept a baseball doubleheader from Army Saturday at Depew Field. The Bison won game one 2-1 behind a complete game five-hitter from Trey Frahler (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) and a two-run home run by Andrew Loucks (Mississauga, Ontario/Appleby College). In game two, Ben Yoder (Belleville, Pa./Indian Valley) hit two home runs and Chris Yamaguchi (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) limited the Black Knights to two runs on eight hits in eight innings to improve to 4-0 this season as Bucknell triumphed 18-2. DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Leopards began their 2009 baseball season with a bang, taking both games of a season-opening doubleheader in Davidson. Lafayette won a 2-1 decision against Ohio in the day’s first game and capped off the afternoon with a 10-6 win over host Davidson.
Senior shortstop Daniel Bierce led the Lafayette offense with five hits, including a two-run home run against Davidson, and added three RBI. Sophomore righty Zach Fritz tossed 6.2 shutout innings against Ohio and Corey Shea threw four innings of one-run relief in the Leopards’ second victory. Continue reading →
