NCBWA Names 2012 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

LaSalle completes Coaching Staff

Sophomore Brian Johnson (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) threw five scoreless innings and No. 1 Florida (8-1) raced out to an 8-0 lead through four innings on its way to an 8-3 victory over No. 24 Miami (4-5) on Friday night in front of 4,587 fans at McKethan Stadium. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Atlantic 10

The Charlotte 49ers dominated the Atlantic 10 conference in 2010 by winning the regular season title with a 20-7 conference record. Xavier finished two games back with a 18-9 record while Rhode Island finished in third place at 17-10. St. Louis and Fordham tied for fourth place with 15-12 records. George Washington and LaSalle tied for sixth with 14-13 records. Umass and St. Joe’s tied for eighth place at 13-14 while Dayton finished in tenth place at 12-15. Richmond, Duquesne, and Temple finished in a tie for eleventh at 10-17 while St. Bonaventure finished last at 8-19. Read the rest of this entry »

Virginia 14 East Carolina 11

StevenProsciaUVA GREENVILLE, N.C. – The No. 2 Virginia baseball team held off a late East Carolina rally in posting a 14-11 victory over the No. 11 Pirates Sunday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, N.C. UVa picked up a 2-1 series win.

The wild contest featured 30 hits and 37 players, including 13 pitchers, while lasting four hours and 11 minutes. Every Virginia starter recorded at least one hit, with seven posting at least two. Keith Werman (So., Vienna, Va.) and Dan Grovatt (Jr., Tabernacle, N.J.) each had three hits for the Cavaliers, who finished with 19 hits. Phil Gosselin (Jr., West Chester, Pa.) homered and scored three times for the Cavaliers. UVa had plenty of opportunities to tack on more runs, but left 17 runners on base.

DannyHultzenUVA GREENVILLE, N.C. – The No. 2 Virginia baseball team opened the 2010 season strong with a 6-2 victory over No. 11 East Carolina Friday afternoon in front of 5,012 fans at Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville, N.C. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Cavaliers rallied by scoring six unanswered runs over the final six innings.

Danny Hultzen (So., Bethesda, Md.) had a big day at the plate and on the mound for Virginia. Hultzen earned the win and went six strong innings as UVa’s starting pitcher, allowing two earned runs, four hits and three walks while striking out four. After a shaky opening inning where he allowed both runs as well as two walks, Hultzen settled down to surrender just two hits and a walk over the final five innings. At the plate, Hultzen added two hits, including a double, and scored twice.

Dayton picked to win A-10 Title by League Coaches

DaytonBaseball NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After winning a program-record 38 games and capturing its first-ever regular season crown a year ago, Dayton has been selected to win the 2010 Atlantic 10 baseball title in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches.

Four-time champion Charlotte has been picked second, while defending league champ Xavier is third.
