2013 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army baseball team was picked first in the Patriot League preseason poll which was released on Wednesday. The Black Knights earned five first-place votes and finished tied with Holy Cross atop the preseason listing, which was compiled by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Army and Holy Cross, whom Army defeated in three games to claim the 2012 Patriot League tournament championship, both accumulated 45 points to tie for first in the preseason poll. The Crusaders collected six first-place votes. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Patriot League Preseason Coaching Poll Released

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released the preseason baseball poll on Wednesday with both Navy and Bucknell tied at the top. Both teams were picked first with 39 points, while Navy received more first-place votes (five) than Bucknell (four). Army was picked just behind Navy and Bucknell with 38 points and one first-place vote, while Holy Cross took the fourth spot with 29 points and two first-place votes. Lafayette and Lehigh, respectively, rounded out the preseason poll, which is voted on by the Patriot League’s head coaches and sports information contacts. Read the rest of this entry »

Lafayette’s Jeff Snell Atypical Journey

Lafayette’s Jeff Snell wasn’t even the best player at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill but has become the best player for the Lafayette Leopards. Interesting enough, is the fact that he ended up walking on the Leopards baseball program while having only the fall of 2008 to prove himself. He has brought himself all the way to pitch in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League which is regarded as one of the best summer leagues in the country. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 Patriot League Semifinals Preview

Center Valley, Pa. — After the most competitive regular-season race in League history, four teams will open up postseason play with semifinal series of the Patriot League Baseball Tournament this weekend.

The matchups pit No. 4 Bucknell at No. 1 Navy and No. 3 Lafayette at No. 2 Army, with each three-game series featuring a doubleheader on Saturday and decisive final game, if necessary, on Sunday afternoon. 2011 All-Patriot League Teams and Major Awards Announced

Miller and Bucknell junior starting pitcher Ryan Ebner had never received an All-Patriot League selection coming into the season, but each student-athlete stood out during the 2011 campaign to take home the Patriot League Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Year honors, respectively, as the sport’s major awards and All-Patriot League teams were announced on Tuesday. Ian Law added to Lafayette Coaching Staff

EASTON, Pa. – Former All-Patriot League selection Ian Law ’06 has joined the Lafayette baseball program’s coaching staff under head coach Joe Kinney.

Most recently, Law served as an assistant coach at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. for two seasons. Law coached with former Lafayette assistant and current Moravian head coach Paul Engelhardt. In 2010, Moravian advanced to the NCAA Tournament, the first appearance in program history, and the program’s coaching staff was named the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year after a 26-15 mark. Lafayette starts construction on New Hitting Facility

Construction crews broke ground on Dec. 27 for the Morel Field House, an indoor batting facility that will be used by the Lafayette baseball and softball programs.

The generosity of Don Morel ’79, a former Lafayette pitcher, allowed for the construction of the facility, which is scheduled to be ready for use by the home portion of the 2011 baseball and softball seasons. Read the rest of this entry »

Rays Manager Joe Maddon receives Honorary Doctorate from Lafayette

MaddonHonanaryDegree Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon was honored by Lafayette with an Honorary Doctorate degree on Thursday night. Maddon dropped out of Lafayette 35 years ago and ended up working his way up to being the manager of the Tampa Bay Rays. He was originally recruited as a football player but ended up being a two sport athlete as he starred on the baseball diamond at second base.

2010 All-Patriot League Baseball Teams and Major Awards

AndrewBrouseBucknell Center Valley, Pa. – The four teams that advanced to the Patriot League Baseball Tournament beginning this weekend also received the individual honors from the League’s coaches on Tuesday, as Bucknell, Army, Holy Cross and Lehigh each garnered one of the four major awards.

Bucknell senior outfielder Andrew Brouse earned Player of the Year honors, while Army senior pitcher Matt Fouch was named the League’s Pitcher of the Year. Holy Cross freshman catcher Stephen Wadsworth is the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, with Lehigh Head Coach Sean Leary as the Coach of the Year.
