USA Baseball Announces 30 Semifinalists for 2011 Golden Spikes Award

Foley’s Quick Hits for Feb. 25th

This weekend we see two major non-conference matchups between ranked teams with Stanford heading to Vanderbilt and Cal-State Fullerton visiting Fort Worth to visit TCU. Also, Georgia Tech is hosting St. John’s and Long Beach State hosting Arizona in some other series to watch.  Continue reading

Top 100 Countdown: 25. Kyle Winkler (TCU)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 25 with TCU junior RHP Kyle Winkler. The Sugar Land, Texas native attended Kempner High School where he was a three time letter winner. As a senior, he was named first-team all-state and all-district honors while being named the 167th top prospect in the country while being 19th in the state of Texas. He ended up being selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 37th round in the 2008 MLB Draft. Continue reading

Team USA Advances to Semifinals with 11-0 Victory over China


RyanWrightLouisville Tokyo, Japan – Team USA scored a combined 10 runs in the third and fourth innings and cruised to an 11-0, seven inning quarterfinal win over China Tuesday afternoon at the V FISU World University Championships inside Yokohama Stadium. With the win, USA (15-2) advances to the semi-finals and will play the winner of Chinese Taipei/Japan on Thursday with a scheduled start time yet to be determined.

Team USA defeats Chinese Taipei 9-1


Taipei, Taiwan – Jackie Bradley, Jr. (South Carolina), Brad Miller (Clemson) and Ryan Wright (Louisville) each collected three hits and helped Team USA to a 9-1 win and a split of the four-game series with Chinese-Taipei Wednesday at Hsinchuang Field.

Bradley, Jr. and Wright joined Alex Dickerson with a team-best two RBI, while Wright smacked his first home run of the summer on a solo shot down the left field line in the third inning.

Team USA loses to Chinese Taipei 3-1


JackieBradleyJrSouthCarolina Taipei, Taiwan – Chinese Taipei used four hits in the sixth inning to score a pair of runs and walked away with a 3-1 over Team USA (9-1) Sunday night at Hsinchuang Field. With the win, Chinese Taipei snaps the Collegiate National Team’s win streak at nine games.

UConn’s Springer leads Team USA to a 8-4 win


Papillion, Neb. – George Springer (Connecticut) collected two hits and drove in three runs, while Brett Monneyham (Stanford) scattered three hits over five innings to pace Team USA to an 8-4 win over the Omaha Diamond Spirit of the MINK League Tuesday night at E.A. Fricke Field. With the win the Collegiate National Team (CNT) improves to 7-0 on the summer.
