College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 26 Hawaii junior second baseman Kolten Wong. The Hilo, Hawaii, native attended Kamehameha-Hawaii High School in Kea’au, and was an All-League selection each of his four years there. He was named to the All-State Team in 2006 and 2008, and was State Co-Player of the Year in 2008, hitting .660 for his senior season. Wong also played football in high school and was named First Team All-League from 2005-07, earning league Player of the Year honors in 2006. Regular-season MVP Kolten Wong (Hawaii) and home run champion Jordan Ribera (Fresno State) lead the list of stars who were named to the 2010 Cape Cod Baseball League’s All-League team that was announced by commissioner Paul Galop this weekend.
A total of 24 players were selected to the elite team, with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and the Orleans Firebirds each placing four on the squad. The lone representative from the Cape League champion Cotuit Kettleers is starting pitcher Austin Wood (St. Petersburg), who went 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA this season.

ORLEANS —- You never quite know what result a big decision can have. For Kolten Wong (Hawai’i), the decision to forgo Team USA to play with the Orleans Firebirds this summer resulted in the MVP trophy.
Despite missing the last four games of the regular season due to an injury, Wong was honored with the Pat Sorenti Most Valuable Player Award.

Here are my Top 10 players to watch in tomorrow’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game at Fenway Park. The CCBL All-Star game is considered by many as the premier summer league All-Star game. The league has had 826 players proceed onto MLB careers. In 2009, the CCBL had 217 alums in the Majors while 234 Cape Leaguers were selected in the 2009 MLB Draft. The Cape Cod Baseball League will play the All-Star Game on Wednesday night at 7pm. The coaches have put out their starting lineup for the game and announced the starting pitchers. Austin Wood from St. Petersburg and the Cotuit Kettleers will get the ball for the Western Division while Andrew Gagnon from Long Beach State and the Brewster White caps will get the ball for the Eastern Division.
