Oklahoma has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2013 Big 12 baseball regular season. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, the Sooners earned six first-place votes, totaling 62 points. League newcomer TCU tallied the remaining three first-place votes and 55 points for the second place spot.
This marks the second time the Sooners have been tabbed to win the Conference’s regular season title. In 2011, OU also received six first-place votes. Oklahoma has never claimed a Big 12 title and has won the postseason crown on just one occasion – at the inaugural event in 1997. Read the rest of this entry »

Kansas releases 2013 Schedule

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas baseball is scheduled to play 28 home games and travel to conference newcomers TCU (March 15-17) and West Virginia (April 27-29) highlighting the 2013 schedule, which the team released Wednesday.
The Jayhawks will play 14 games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, including nine against teams that advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round. Former Kansas coach Floyd Temple Passes Away

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Legendary Kansas baseball coach Floyd Temple, who amassed 438 wins from 1954 to 1981, passed away Friday at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, son Biff and daughter, Ann as well as grandchildren, Stephanie, Kelley and Taylor Ann. Read the rest of this entry »
CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 18th
Here are some of my quick thoughts from games played on February 18th.
One of the things heading into the weekend that I wanted to see was how dominate Marcus Stroman would be with the Duke Blue Devils as a starting pitcher. He was far from dominant in his first start of the year on Saturday, lasting only five innings giving up three runs on four hits and six walks against the Texas Longhorns. I still believe he will be a great reliever but doesn’t have the type of stuff to be a starting pitcher but that is just my opinion. The Blue Devils ended up losing that game 4-0 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 5-3. Read the rest of this entry »

- Doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 12:05 PM.
Kansas 3 Bowling Green 1 (Game 1)
- Kansas took the lead in the seventh on a two-run single from LF Tucker Tharp.
- SS Kevin Kuntz led the Jayhawks with two hits. Kansas had six hits total.
- Freshman LHP Wes Benjamin picked up the win in his first career start, going seven innings and allowing only one run on five hits. Benjamin walked one and struck out three.
- Tanner Poppe picked up his first save of the season, allowing a hit and striking out a batter in the ninth. Read the rest of this entry »
Big 12 Notes 2/17
- Baylor scored a pair in the 8th off a Josh Ludy RBI single and Michael Howard RBI walk.
- Baylor’s 1-4 hitters were 6-12, with four walks, three runs, and two RBI. The remaining hitters were 0-16 with a pair of walks and an RBI.
- 1B Max Muncy was 2-2 with two walks and a run.
- RHP Josh Turley only last 4.2 innings, but he only gave up five hits and allowed a pair of unearned runs. Trent Blank was excellent in relief, picking up the victory with 3.1 innings of work, allowing one hit and a pair of walks. Dillon Newman picked up the save with a perfect ninth. 2012 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Texas A&M has been unanimously selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2012 Big 12 baseball regular season title. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, the Aggies earned eight first place votes, totaling 64 points. In 2011, TAMU made its fifth College World Series appearance, claimed its second-straight Big 12 postseason crown and earned a share of the regular season title. In 2012, the Big 12 will be without a former power, while saying farewell to a pair of teams and preparing to welcome another. With Nebraska officially gone to the Big Ten, the conference will take on a new shape with only nine members. Conference favorite, Texas A&M, is preparing to compete in their final Big 12 season before jumping ship to the powerful SEC with Missouri in tow. Kansas Baseball Unveils 2012 Schedule

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas baseball, with 10th-year head coach Ritch Price, announced its 2012 schedule on Wednesday. The Jayhawks’ 56-game schedule includes 21 games at Hoglund Ballpark, including home contests with traditional rivals Wichita State (April 10), Kansas State (April 25) and Missouri (May 17-19).
