LONG BEACH, Calif. — Cal left-hander Justin Jones said when he warmed up in the bullpen he felt the best he’s felt since he was sidelined during last year’s College World Series with strained bicep. That didn’t transfer to the game mound, however.
Jones never found a rhythm and lasted only three innings. The projected early round draft pick only gave up three hits, but he allowed four runs thanks to three walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches.
After scoring four off Jones, Long Beach State tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and held on for a 7-4 win Friday night at Blair Field. Continue reading

We continue the countdown today at number 90 with Cal junior LHP Justin Jones. The 6’2 188 pound lefty out of Oakdale, California had an outstanding high school career at Oakdale High School. As a senior, he went 10-1 with 118 strikeouts and a 0.42 ERA. He was even better as a junior going a perfect 12-0 with 124 strikeouts and a 0.40 ERA. The Chicago White Sox selected him in the seventh round but he decided to head to Berkley to become a member of the Cal squad. Continue reading
