MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 21, today. James Madison’s senior outfielder Colby Roberts was named National Hitter of the Week, while West Virginia sophomore left-handed pitcher Harrison Musgrave was named National Pitcher of the Week. 2013 CAA Preseason Coaches Poll

RICHMOND, Va. (January 23, 2013) – UNCW, which captured its third CAA baseball championship in the past nine years last season, has been picked to win the conference title again in 2013 according to a vote of the league’s head baseball coaches.
The Seahawks received five first-place votes and finished atop the poll with 75 points. Hofstra picked up three first-place votes and was second with 69 points. James Madison was chosen third with 62 points and Delaware got two first-place votes and was fourth with 57 points. George Mason placed fifth in the voting, followed by Old Dominion, William & Mary, Towson, Northeastern and Georgia State. Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Quick Hits for Feb. 18th
Here are some of my quick thoughts from games played on February 18th.
One of the things heading into the weekend that I wanted to see was how dominate Marcus Stroman would be with the Duke Blue Devils as a starting pitcher. He was far from dominant in his first start of the year on Saturday, lasting only five innings giving up three runs on four hits and six walks against the Texas Longhorns. I still believe he will be a great reliever but doesn’t have the type of stuff to be a starting pitcher but that is just my opinion. The Blue Devils ended up losing that game 4-0 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 5-3. Read the rest of this entry »

JMU Assistant Jay Sullenger Resigns for New Career

HARRISONBURG, Va., Dec. 22, 2011 – Baseball associate head coach Jay Sullenger, who has served on Spanky McFarland’s staff for 11 of his 14 seasons as head coach, announced that he will step away from the program in order to pursue new opportunities.
“There’s no doubt we’re going to miss him,” noted McFarland upon Sullenger’s departure. “He was a big factor in getting this program up to the level that it’s at right now. But I remember when he was a young coach coming in here and getting started. This will present an opportunity for somebody else to come in here and get started. We’ll obviously miss him, but at the same time we’re happy for him and his new endeavor. We wish him all the success and happiness.” Read the rest of this entry »
