BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — After winning the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships each of the past two years, Austin Peay has been tabbed the 2013 preseason favorite for the 11-team league in a vote of OVC head baseball coaches and sports information directors. In additional voting APSU junior second baseman Jordan Hankins and Tennessee Tech junior first baseman Zach Stephens were named OVC Preseason Co-Players of the Year while Belmont senior lefty Chase Brookshire was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Jacksonville State releases 2013 Schedule

Jacksonville State University head coach Jim Case announced the 2013 baseball schedule on Thursday, which includes home games against in-state rivals Auburn, South Alabama, Samford, Troy and UAB.

In additional voting Southeast Missouri State All-American senior third baseman Trenton Moses was named OVC Preseason Player of the Year while Jacksonville State senior closer Todd Hornsby was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. 2011 CCBL All-Star Game Recap: East Division defeats West 4-1
The Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star is usually a showcase for the best college baseball talent in the country and this year was more of the same.
Taylor Rogers (Kentucky) picked up the win as he gave up a first inning run as Travis Jankowski (Stony Brook) scored the opening run of the game on a Eric Stamets (Evansville) bunt single. The throw to third base from first baseman Ben Waldrip (Jacksonville State) fly into the stands allowing Jankowski to score from second base. Mike Murphree Joins Jacksonville State Coaching Staff

JACKSONVILLE – Mike Murphree has been hired as an assistant baseball coach at Jacksonville State University head coach Jim Case announced on Friday.
Murphree spent the last two seasons at Gulf Coast Community College, where he worked primarily with the hitters and also served as the Commodores recruiting coordinator, and helped the team to the 2010 Panhandle Conference Championship. Read the rest of this entry »
Breaking down the CCBL All-Star Game by Conference/Teams
Since the Cape Cod Baseball League announced their 2011 All-Star Game rosters on Friday, lets take a look at what conferences and college programs have had the most success this summer. The leading conference this year is the Pac-10 conference which features eight players from seven different school. Coming in second place is the SEC which has six players from four different schools. Interesting enough, the ACC and Big East conference both have four players in the game this year which speaks to how strong the the Big East over the last couple of seasons. Jacksonville State’s Ben Waldrip set to sign with Kansas City Royals
Jacksonville State’s first baseman Ben Waldrip will sign with the Kansas City Royals after the Cape Cod All-Star Game on July 29th according to the Cape Cod Times.
The newspaper tweeted out the following on Saturday evening.
Firebirds’ Ben Waldrip will be signing with the Royals after All-Star game, according to Royals director of scouting Lonnie Goldberg.
Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week (June 27th)
Joe Bircher, Falmouth LHP
This week’s pitcher of the week is strikeout machine Joe Bircher (Bradley). The southpaw recorded six innings of one-hit ball in a 6-1 win over Hyannis, allowing only an unearned run. He struck out nine without surrendering a walk over his six innings of work. Read the rest of this entry »

Ohio Valley Conference to play Fridays-Sundays in 2012

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference has announced a change to the format of its Conference regular season series for baseball starting with the 2012 season.
Currently the OVC plays a three-game series spread over two days, with the teams playing a doubleheader on Saturday (with one of those games being a 7-inning game, the other a 9-inning affair) and a single 9-inning game on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »

In additional voting Tennessee Tech senior All-American outfielder Chad Oberacker was named OVC Preseason Player of the Year while Eastern Illinois junior hurler Mike Hoekstra was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
