BATON ROUGE – An offensive explosion in the late innings highlighted the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team’s 15-1 victory over Jackson State in the first elimination game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional here Saturday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium/Skip Bertman Field.
The Cajuns (42-19) responded from being held to two runs on four hits on Friday against Sam Houston State by collecting 15 runs on 19 hits against Jackson State, registering two four-run innings – in the fifth and eighth inning – and a six-run inning in the ninth. The 14-run margin of victory marked the largest victory in the NCAA Baseball Championship for the Cajuns. Continue reading

For the fourth time since 2008, the LSU Tigers will host a regional, and if history is any indication, they will be the heavy favorites for a reason other than being one of the country’s top teams. The Tigers, who are the No. 4 national seed in the field of 64, have won 14 of the last 16 regionals they have hosted. LSU will have some tough competition, however, against the powerful bats of in-state foe No. 2 seed Louisiana-Lafayette. No. 3 seed Sam Houston State and No. 4 seed Jackson State round out the regional. Continue reading

Jackson State has terminated Kevin Whiteside according to the ClarionLedger.com. Whiteside according to the article was in his second years as an assistant. He played with the Tigers in 2003, hitting over .300 with 30 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Continue reading

#17 LSU 9 Southeastern Louisiana 5
BATON ROUGE, La. - Homers by right fielder Mikie Mahtook and first baseman Blake Dean erased a 5-4 deficit in the sixth inning and powered No. 15 LSU to a 9-5 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Tuesday night in Alex Box Stadium.
With the win, the Tigers (33-13) snapped a seven-game losing skid and improved to 10-1 this season in mid-week contests. Southeastern dropped to 33-14 with the loss.
LSU will be back in action this weekend when it hosts SEC foe Vanderbilt in a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m., in Alex Box Stadium.

#3 LSU 17 Alcorn State 5
BATON ROUGE, La. - Rightfielder Mikie Mahtook hit for the cycle and the third-ranked Tigers pounded 20 hits as LSU defeated Alcorn State, 17-5, Tuesday night in Alex Box Stadium.
Mahtook became the first Tiger to hit for the cycle since Aaron Hill accomplished the feat on April 5, 2003 against South Carolina. Mahtook went 4-for-4 with five runs scored as he doubled in the first inning, singled in the second, ripped a triple off the wall in the fifth and blasted a two-run dinger in the sixth.

The 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament will be played at Shreveport, LA’s Fair Grounds Field, Commissioner Duer Sharp announced today.
This year’s tournament will be played May 26-30, with the top four teams in each of the SWAC’s Eastern and Western Divisions qualifying for Conference postseason play.
The SWAC Baseball Tournament returns to Fair Grounds Field for the first time since 2002. The park is home of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball

Villanova signs four for 2010-2011 season
VILLANOVA, Pa. – During the recent early signing period which ended on November 18, head coach Joe Godri signed four scholastic players to National Letters of Intent. The group of four recruits includes two pitchers and two position players. All four players are expected to enroll at Villanova in the fall of 2010.
"We were able to address all of our immediate needs with this signing class," Godri said. "The four players we signed during the early period are good students academically and outstanding athletes who have experience playing for some of the nation’s top club teams."
With the Season starting in a few weeks schools are still releasing and getting their schedule together.
