Dartmouth repeats as Ivy League Champion

Ivy Champs 2010 NEW YORK, N.Y. — While Dartmouth baseball head coach Bob Whalen earned his 400th career victory yesterday, number 401 turned out to be much sweeter as the Big Green (25-16) defeated Columbia (26-21) in the third and decisive game of the Ivy League Championship Series on Sunday afternoon, 11-5. Every Dartmouth hitter had at least one hit and scored at least one run to help the team win the conference title for the second straight year.

Freshman Kyle Hunter (2-0), who had six no-decisions this year (five of which Dartmouth won), earned the victory by hurling 5.2 innings while yielding four earned runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out six as well. Sophomore Cole Sulser shut the door on the Lions in relief of Hunter, tossing the final 3.1 innings and allowing just a solitary run in the ninth on a total of three hits while fanning five for his fourth save.

New York, NY – Brown earned its second consecutive Ivy split on Sunday afternoon, taking one of two against Columbia behind a strong start from junior Matt Kimball.  Kimball, who set a new single season record for saves in 2009 as the closer for the Bears, gave up just one run in six innings in his first start for Brown in nearly two years.

Philadelphia, PA – The Brown baseball team kicked off its Ivy League season on Saturday afternoon, earning a road split against Penn, winning the second game 11-5 after dropping a tough 8-6 opener.  Sophomore Mike DiBiase had a big day at the plate, going 5-6 with three RBI’s and two walks over the doubleheader.

Ivy League Championship Series: Cornell and Dartmouth split; Game 3 on Sunday

HANOVER, N.H. — In both games of the Ivy Championship doubleheader, Dartmouth staked visiting Cornell to a six-run lead. Both times, the Big Green rallied to take the lead. Only once could they hold on, winning the opener, 8-6, before falling in the nightcap, 14-12, at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park in front of 1,024 fans. Ivy League Recap for April 26th

Here is your Ivy League Recap for the final weekend of action. Dartmouth won the Red Rolfe Division for the second straight year while Princeton and Cornell tied for the Gehrig Division title. Princeton and Cornell will play a playoff game on Wednesday at Cornell to decide which team advances to the Ivy League Championship next weekend which will be hosted by Dartmouth at newly renovated Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. HANOVER, N.H. -A nine-run second inning allowed Dartmouth to cruise to a 14-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader before falling to Harvard in game two in 10 innings, 6-4, in front of 1,237 fans at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on Senior Day. Coupled with Brown’s doubleheader split at Yale this afternoon, the Big Green (21-12, 15-3 Ivy) have clinched at least a share of the Rolfe Division crown as they own a two-game lead on the Bears with two to play. HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth (14-10, 11-1 Ivy) banged out 16 hits in the first game of a doubleheader and scored eight times in the sixth to rally for a 14-9 victory over Brown and extend its winning streak to 13 games on Sunday afternoon at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park. But the Bears (13-15-1, 8-4 Ivy) clawed back in the second game, overcoming a five-run deficit before scoring three in the ninth for a 12-9 triumph and become the first Ivy team to defeat the Big Green this year. The 13-game streak was the third longest in school history, behind a 21-game winning streak in 1970 — the year Dartmouth advanced to the College World Series — and a 16-gamer in 1997. HANOVER, N.H. – In a showdown between the top two teams in the Rolfe Division standings of the Ivy League, Dartmouth posted a pair of 5-2 victories on Saturday afternoon over the visiting Brown Bears (12-14-1, 7-3 Ivy) to extend its winning streak to 12 games and remain unblemished in conference play. The Big Green (13-9, 10-0 Ivy) got a gutty pitching performance by junior Robert Young (Cleburne, Texas) in the opener of the four-game series, while junior Ben Murray (Grants Pass, Ore.) tossed an efficient eight innings in game two.
