Rodon overused; Duke defeats NC State 2-0 behind Van Orden

The top story of the night was the absolute criminal overuse of Carlos Rodon by the NC State coaching staff in the Wolfpack’s 2-0 defeat to Duke. Rodon was working on short rest and threw 134 pitches in 7.2 innings. Rodon in the game broke the NC State school record with 391 in the win. Iowa announces 2014 Schedule

IowaBaseball_thumb.jpgIOWA CITY, Iowa — First-year University of Iowa baseball coach Rick Heller announced the details of the 2014 spring schedule Tuesday. The Hawkeyes’ 53-game slate includes 16 contests against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams and 22 games at Banks Field.

Iowa opens the season at Austin Peay for the second-straight season, facing the Governors on Feb. 14-16 in Clarksville, Tenn. Austin Peay posted a 47-15 record in 2013, earning its third-straight Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title and NCAA berth. Continue reading Iowa announces 2014 Schedule

Iowa to name Darin Hendrickson as Head Coach

Update #1: St. Louis and Darin Hendrickson are refuting the report but we have spoken to many sources around the Iowa program that Hendrickson will be named the new coach.

College Baseball Daily has learned from sources close to the situation that Iowa will name Darin Hendrickson as the Hawkeyes head coach. Hendrickson led the Billkens to a 41-21 overall record while going 17-7 in Atlantic 10 play. He brought the squad to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2013 Atlantic 10 postseason tournament but went 0-2 in the Columbia, SC regional with losses to South Carolina and Clemson. He has a career coaching record of 688-323 in 18 years of coaching on the collegiate level which includes stops at Central Missouri, St. Louis Community College Forest Park, and Fontbonne University. Iowa names Jim Brownlee as Interim Pitching Coach

IOWA_thumb.jpgIOWA CITY, Iowa — Former 30-year head baseball coach Jim Brownlee has been named the interim pitching coach for the University of Iowa baseball program, head coach Jack Dahm announced Friday.

Iowa names Zach Dillon as Assistant Coach

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Zach Dillon has been named an interim assistant coach with the University of Iowa baseball program, UI head coach Jack Dahm announced Monday. Dillon, who served as a volunteer assistant with the Hawkeyes in 2010 and 2011, will be Iowa’s hitting coach, handle the catchers and coach third base.
