Former Oregon State pitcher Rob Summers suffered a devastating back injury in the summer after the 2006 College World Series title that left him as a quadriplegic. This was horrible news for Summers who had dreams of playing in MLB but it didn’t deter him from recovering from the injury even though doctors told him that he would not walk again. After an intense rehab, he has seen remarkable improvement. He had regained feeling in his legs and arms while being able to walk for several minutes at a time. Continue reading
Eric Erickson is looking to return to the Miami (FL) pitching staff for the 2012 season according to CBD sources. He had an outstanding freshman season in 2007 going 10-4 with a 2.50 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 90 innings. Vanderbilt freshman RHP T.J. Pecoraro will miss the rest of the 2011 season with a torn ligament in his right arm. He suffered the injury last night against Georgia as he left the game with one out in the fourth inning. He got an MRI today and it revealed the tear in his UCL ligament. Continue reading
South Carolina junior outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is likely out for the season with a torn tendon in his left wrist. Bradley was a key component in the Gamecocks run to the 2010 CWS title. He led the team with a .368 batting average while hitting 13 homers and driving in 60 runs. Coming into the 2011 campaign, CBD had rated Bradley as the fifth best player in the country. TCU’s Matt Purke has been shutdown for the time being with a shoulder injury as he visited famed orthopedist James Andrew this week. Purke’s velocity all season has been way down barely touching 90 MPH in some of his starts. Last season, he had an outstanding freshman season which saw him go 16-0 with a 3.02 ERA while bringing the Horned Frogs to the school’s first CWS appearance. Georgia’s Johnathan Taylor fractured his C5 and C6 vertebrae in a collision in the outfield against Florida State back on March 6th. An update was given on his condition on Thuesday, in which he remains paralyzed below the waist. The Atlanta Journal Constitution checked in states there are positives to the story. Like the fact that his medical expenses are going to be covered for the next 30 years, and the fact that he has progressed well enough over the last five weeks to be able to move his shoulders and arms as well as manually use a motorized wheelchair. Another positive part of the story, the Bulldogs have rallied and gone 15-8 since the injury, as well as the Jonathan Taylor Fund being established.

UNLV sophomore RHP Brady Zuniga was hit by a Matt Andriese line drive to his head tonight during the Rebels game against UC-Riverside. Brady is from Monterey Park, California and his family was in attendance according to reports. He was down for roughly 15 minutes before being taking away by ambulance. The good news is that he was conscious when he left the field. This is a story that is just breaking and we will update with more information as it becomes available. Video of the incident is below.
