Breaking down the CCBL All-Stars using Sabermetrics

Beyond the Box Score, a SB Nation blog, has broken down the CCBL All-Stars using Sabermetrics. Glenn DuPaul was able to calculate weighted on base average and OPS+ but was not able to calculate in park adjustments. He was also able to figure out Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) and KWERA for the pitchers.  Continue reading

2012 CBD Season Preview: Missouri Valley Conference

In June of 2011, perennial baseball power Dallas Baptist University was granted a provisional season with the Missouri Valley Conference. In essence a year-long test run, the MVC was then planning to vote on DBU’s membership after the duration of the season in May of 2012. While the movement to bring DBU—who made it all the way to the Super-Regionals last season before falling to Cal—was seen as an effort to boost the MVC’s power ranking, it was also met by skepticism from some MVC teams citing travel time and costs as concerns. As a result, the Patriots were offered the provisional membership rather than acceptance in to the conference. Continue reading

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State baseball team hit the field for the first time on Tuesday, Sept. 20, taking on the Ontario Blue Jays at Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium. The Sycamores got off to a hot start and rode a six-run first inning to victory, defeating the Blue Jays by a score of 11-1. Continue reading


Indiana State releases 2012 Schedule

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Head coach Rick Heller has announced the dates for the 2012 Indiana State baseball schedule today (August 12), a total of 57 games for the Sycamores in his third season in charge of the program.

ISU begins their 2012 campaign with nine games on the road in late February and early March, traveling to Southwest Louisiana (Feb. 17-19), Huntsville, Ala., for the Alabama A&M Tournament (Feb. 24-26) and Eastern Kentucky (March 2-4). Alabama A&M and IPFW will also be at the tournament on the final weekend of February, with matchups to be announced at a later date. Continue reading


Ronnie Prettyman added to Indiana State Coaching Staff

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Head coach Rick Heller has announced the addition of Ronnie Prettyman to the Indiana State baseball coaching staff today. Prettyman spent this past summer as an assistant with the Terre Haute Rex, supporting the team’s run to the postseason in the Prospect League. Continue reading


2011 CBD Missouri Valley Conference Awards

2011 College Baseball Daily MVC Player of the Year – Chris O’Brien, Wichita State

Chris O’Brien of Wichita State is 2011 CBD Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. The junior catcher from Tulsa, OK, absolutely knocked the cover off the ball in his first full season of duty, hitting .410, tallying 100 hits and 25 doubles, while managing a .495 on-base-percentage—all league bests. His 100 hits were also good for second-most in the nation. O’Brien placed in to the top 3 in the Valley in homeruns (10), RBI (70), and runs scored (56). O’Brien, who hit above .500 for the majority of conference-play, also led the conference with 31 multi-hit games and finishes the season on a career-best 29-game hitting streak. He is a finalist for both the Johnny Bench (best collegiate catcher) and Dick Howser (top collegiate player as voted on by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) awards.
