UIC and St. Mary’s pick up Upset Wins

There was two substantial upsets on Thursday night. The biggest upset was  Illinois-Chicago scoring two runs in the top of the ninth for a 3-2 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodors. Saint Mary’s caught the Stanford Cardinal looking ahead to Texas by scoring a 6-5 victory at Sunken Diamond. Continue reading

Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

Kevin Gonzalez’s walk-off two-out RBI single capped a late rally and lifted No. 1 Texas A&M to a 7-6 win Saturday afternoon over Wright State in the first game of a doubleheader at Olsen Field.

Big 12 Recap for February 20th

I was able to get away from work and make it out to Disch Falk Field by the 2nd inning. It was a great Friday Afternoon to take in a game of baseball. Texas open the game with Sophomore Chance Ruffin and UI-C counter with junior left-hander Chris Kovacevich.

The Longhorns manufactured one run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Travis Tucker led off the frame with a single through the right side of the infield. A sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy and a wild pitch pushed Tucker to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Belt.

2009 Horizon League Preseason Baseball Poll

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Illinois at Chicago has been picked to win the 2009 Horizon League Baseball Championship in balloting by the conference’s seven head coaches.

UIC received 36 points and the maximum six first-place votes as coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams. The Flames posted a 35-22 overall record and 17-6 Horizon League mark a season ago en route to their fourth conference crown in six years. Continue reading

UIC releases 2009 Schedule

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team unveiled its 2009 schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 20, with a season-opening series against perennial national power Texas beginning a challenging slate for the defending Horizon League champion Flames.

UIC’s campaign begins a month from now against the Longhorns on Friday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in Austin, Texas. That is the first of a four-game set against Texas, which is ranked fourth in Baseball America’s Preseason Top 25 Rankings. Continue reading

Baseball Program Holds 11th Annual Bullpen Golf Outing.

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John’s baseball program hosted its 11th annual Bullpen Golf Outing at Pelham Country Club in Pelham Manor, N.Y., on July 28. The event, with title sponsor Chartwells, raised over $40,000 to benefit the Red Storm baseball program.

5/31/2008 – College Station, Texas- The UIC baseball team overcame a three-run deficit by scoring five times in the fifth en route to a 9-5 win over Dallas Baptist at the 2008 NCAA College Station Regional.

A&M 22 Houston 4

Texas A&M set a school record with six home runs and scored its most runs in an NCAA game since 1989 as the ninth-ranked Aggies downed Houston, 22-4, in a winner’s bracket game at the College Station Regional Saturday night before 5,202 fans at Olsen Field.

A&M (45-16) will play for the regional championship on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. against either Houston (40-23) or UIC.
