The Bangor Daily News has an excellent article on former Maine coach John Winkin who took the Black Bears to the College World Series six times with the most recent appearance in 1986. He also coached at Colby College of Waterville ME and Husson College of Bangor ME during his 53 year career from 1954-2007. He was able to accumlate over 1,000 victories combined with the three schools. He finished his coaching career in 2007 when he suffered a stroke on his daily walk in Bangor. Continue reading
MANSFIELD Conn.- The Eastern Connecticut Warrior’s powerful offense flexed its muscles against Husson, proving to be too powerful for even the scrappy Eagles to overcome.

The College Baseball Blog sent writer Nate Owen to cover the Division 3 Regional in Mansfield Connecticut on Friday. The first game of the day featured Trinity (CT) taking on Southern Maine in a winner’s bracket game. Trinity was able to walk away with a 6-0 victory. The second game of the day saw Husson defeat Babson by a score of 10-6 to eliminate Babson. The third game of the day was between Eastern Connecticut and Southern Maine which was won by Eastern Connecticut by a score of 7-2 to end Southern Maine’s season. The final game of the night was a winner’s bracket matchup between WPI and Trinity. Trinity won the game in dominating fashion 14-0. Continue reading

The scrappy Eagles once again battled back for the third time in as many games, hustling their way to six runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to come away as 10-6 winners over the eighth seeded Beavers (23-19) in an elimination game at Eastern Connecticut Stadium. Continue reading
MANSFIELD Conn.- A sloppy seventh inning proved to to be the difference in the second game of Division III NCAA Regional action between Westfield State and Husson.
The Eagles scored six runs in the inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 advantage en route to a 10-3 victory.
“Today we came out and we battled,” Husson head coach Jason Harvey said. “We didn’t come up with some key hits until late in the game but [pitcher] Nate [Adams] kept us in the game and we capitalized on some of their errors.” Continue reading
The College Baseball Blog was in attendance on May 13th for the first day of action in the 2009 Division 3 New England Regional in Mansfield Connecticut. The first game of the day featured WPI taking on Suffolk College which was won by WPI by a score of 7-6. The game was WPI’s first in the NCAA Tournament in the 106 year history of their program. The second game of the day featured Babson taking on the host school of Eastern Connecticut State. Babson used a big seven run second inning to grab a 9-0 lead and hold on for a 10-6 victory. The third game of the day saw Trinity (CT) take on Westfield State. The Bantams were able to get a James Wood homer which gave them the lead for good as they picked up the 6-4 victory. The final game of the night saw Southern Maine take on Husson. Southern Maine was able to pick up a 5-4 ten inning victory on a Mike Eaton single to right field. Continue reading
MANSFIELD Conn.- Powerful Southern Maine and sophomore Mike Eaton took a while to wake out of their slumber, but when they did, the Huskies walked off winners in the opening round on the New England Regional.
After going hitless early on and making a key error in the field, Eaton lined a one out single in the bottom of the tenth to send Southern Maine to a 5-4 win against the Husson Eagles. Continue reading
