Houston Baptist will join the Southland Conference according to a press release from the conference office. As we were the first to report on October 12th, we stated that the conference was in heavy negotiations with Houston Baptist and Abilene Christian. Senior Robby Price went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while junior relief pitcher Brett Bochy earned his second save of the weekend as Kansas earned a series victory over top-ranked LSU with an 8-4 win Sunday in the rubber game of the three game series Sunday.
Senior Robby Price and junior Casey Lytle each had three hits and two doubles, while Brett Bochy pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief as the Kansas Jayhawks knocked off previously unbeaten, and top-ranked Louisiana State, 11-9 Friday night in front of a packed house at Alex Box Stadium.
BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar’s Anthony Moore drove a walk-off single off the right field fence in the 17th inning Saturday night to end the longest baseball game in school history and give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory and a doubleheader sweep of Maine. They also won the first game 6-1.
Week five in the WAC begins with four teams within 1/2 game of each other in the standings. Week four saw all six teams playing in conference action split their series keeping the order in the standings intact heading into this week.
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – On Saturday at Gary Hogan Field, the HBU baseball team lost the first game of a double-header with the University of Arkansas-Little Rock by a score of 5-4 before bouncing back to win game two, 5-2.
Game one remained scoreless until the bottom half of the fourth. The Trojans got a leadoff double, followed by a groundout, a walk and a RBI groundout. With two outs and one man on, UALR got two more hits, drew three walks and HBU pitchers threw three wild pitches that allowed the Trojans to plate four more runs and take a 5-0 lead. HOUSTON, Texas – Robbie Buller’s bases loaded, one out double in the bottom of the ninth pushed two runs across to give the HBU baseball team a 12-11 victory for a four-game sweep of Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
The scoring started early, with Northern Colorado pushing a single run across with a leadoff single, a stolen base and a double. HBU quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning as Nick Homan led things off with a single.
