Houston Baptist to join Southland Conference

Houston Baptist will join the Southland Conference according to a press release from the conference office. As we were the first to report on October 12th, we stated that the conference was in heavy negotiations with Houston Baptist and Abilene Christian. Right now, there has been no news on Abilene Christian possibly making the move to Division 1. The full press release from the conference is below.

Houston Baptist releases 2010 Schedule

“I’m excited about 21 home games after only 10 last year,” Moon said. “It’s nice to play at home, where we have a record of success.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas – On Saturday at Gary Hogan Field, the HBU baseball team lost the first game of a double-header with the University of Arkansas-Little Rock by a score of 5-4 before bouncing back to win game two, 5-2.

Game one remained scoreless until the bottom half of the fourth. The Trojans got a leadoff double, followed by a groundout, a walk and a RBI groundout. With two outs and one man on, UALR got two more hits, drew three walks and HBU pitchers threw three wild pitches that allowed the Trojans to plate four more runs and take a 5-0 lead.

HOUSTON, Texas – Robbie Buller’s bases loaded, one out double in the bottom of the ninth pushed two runs across to give the HBU baseball team a 12-11 victory for a four-game sweep of Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

The scoring started early, with Northern Colorado pushing a single run across with a leadoff single, a stolen base and a double. HBU quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning as Nick Homan led things off with a single. Two outs later, Andrew Taccolini drove his fifth home run of the season over the left field wall to put the Huskies ahead, 2-1.

Houston Baptist Swept by Dallas Baptist

fuquay-1DALLAS, Texas – In a game that had six lead changes, a six-run seventh put the game out of reach for HBU as the Huskies suffered a 14-8 loss to Dallas Baptist to end a three-game series at Patriot Field on Saturday afternoon.

In the top of the first, freshman Travis Fuquay drew a leadoff walk and then stole second with one out. Then, with two outs, Andrew Taccolini singled in Fuquay followed by a single off the bat of Johnathon Moore. Taccolini also scored in the inning thanks to a wild pitch to make it a 2-0 Husky lead. In the bottom of the inning, DBU took advantage of a hit batter and an error to push across one run.
