As a first-year head coach, Wright State’s Greg Lovelady is taking every opportunity to improve his understanding of the game and management of the ballplayers in his care.
It’s Lovelady’s 10th year overall at Wright State, but his first in charge of everything after nine seasons as Rob Cooper’s assistant. His baseball pedigree includes two national championships (1999, 2001) as a player at Miami, a brief pro career in the Florida Marlins minor league system, and three regional appearances with the Raiders (2006, 2009, 2011). FROM CBD NEWS SOURCE Head baseball coach Brian Schmack announced his club’s schedule for the 2014 season Thursday.
The Crusaders will open their season on Valentine’s Day when they head to Alabama to face Samford Feb. 14th-16th. They’ll make a return trip to the Heart of Dixie the following weekend for a three-game set with Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks went 22-8 in the Ohio Valley Conference last season. FROM CBD NEWS SOURCE MILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team will open the upcoming season with trips heading west to play CSU Bakersfield and south to compete at the Snowbird Classic in Florida, head coach Scott Doffek announced today when he released the 2014 schedule. In addition, the defending regular-season champion Panthers will host the Horizon League Tournament for the first time in program history at Kapco Park at the end of May. College Baseball Daily has learned from sources inside the Wright State program that associate head coach Greg Lovelady will be promoted to Head Coach with the Raiders. Lovelady completed his ninth season with the Raiders in 2013 and has served as the Associate Head Coach for the last seventh season. FROM CBD NEWS SOURCE Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Brian Schmack has been named the 17th head coach in Crusader baseball history and just the sixth since 1946.
“We are very excited to have Brian Schmack leading our baseball program,” said LaBarbera. “Over the past couple of years, we have added another chapter of championship play to Valpo’s baseball tradition. This has been the result of hard work by many people, including Brian. Less than 24 hours after suffering one of the more disappointing losses in program history, Valpo showed remarkable resolve by rebounding from a late three-run deficit to defeat the Florida Gators 5-4 at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana.
