Hempstead, NY- Hofstra scored three or more runs in the first three innings during which Matt Kougasian had four RBI and Nick Panzarella had three RBI as the Pride defeated Coppin State, 12-3, Wednesday afternoon. With the victory the Pride improve to 8-16 while the Eagles fall to 3-23.
Hofstra jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. After the first three runners reached base for the Pride, Kougasian drove a run home with a sacrifice fly for the first run. One batter later Panzarella delivered Hofstra’s only hit of the inning to bring home two and increase the lead to 3-0. Continue reading

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama senior first baseman Matt Bentley slammed two home runs, including a solo blast in the fifth inning that gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good, in a 9-5 win over the Samford Bulldogs Wednesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Bentley went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in leading the Crimson Tide to its sixth straight win. Bentley gave the Tide the lead for good with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning off losing pitcher Michael Jarry. Spokane, Wash.- Junior first baseman Ryan Wiegand homered for the third straight game and Gonzaga University won its fourth straight and its seventh in the last eight outings with a 7-4 win over Indiana University Monday in the opener of the Pepsi/Johnny Quick baseball tournament at Beiden Field.
With the scored tied 4-4 in the eighth, Wiegand hit a two-out 0-1 pitch to left-center to put the Bulldogs (7-5) up 6-4. Evan Wells had opened the inning with a walk off Anthony Agnew, on in relief of Hoosiers (3-6) starter Tyler Tufts. Chris Squires relieved Agnew and the Bulldogs got a sacrifice bunt and a groundout to third to set the stage for Wiegand, who tied Jason Chatwood for the team home run lead. Continue reading

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore Nick McCully (Lakeland, Fla./Santa Fe Catholic) allowed just a bunt single in the first inning while striking out nine in the Coastal Carolina University baseball team’s (8-1) 6-0 win over George Mason (1-6) March 2 in the final game of the Baseball at the Beach Tournament at BB&T Coastal Field.
McCully allowed just one walk and tied his career high in strikeouts while improving his record to 2-0 on the year. Continue reading

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Preseason All-American Collin Cowgill homered twice and Sawyer Carroll added his fourth homer of the season, as the No. 17 Kentucky baseball team put the finishing touches on a sweep of a doubleheader with Butler, routing the Bulldogs 21-2, on Saturday evening at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Cowgill, a former Kentucky High School Mr. Baseball, boosted a homer in his first at bat of the game, a two-RBI jack and later in the fifth inning, sending a solo shot soaring over the videoboard high atop the fence in left-center field. The junior centerfielder and Lexington native finished the second game 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs. Continue reading
