CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ben Bunting went 3-for-5 with three RBI and tied a school record with two triples, and No. 4 North Carolina got eight strong innings from its bullpen in a 20-4 win over Winthrop Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium. Garrett Gore and Ryan Graepel also added three hits, as the Tar Heels (28-10) snapped a two-game losing skid with their biggest offensive outburst of the season. Continue reading

ATHENS, Ga. – Jed Bradley scattered five runs over six innings and Jason Haniger went 4-for-5 with a home run to help No. 10 Georgia Tech (22-8-1) knock off top-ranked Georgia (29-7), 11-6, Tuesday night at Foley Field.

Bradley (2-2) tied a career-high with seven strikeouts to help the Yellow Jackets to their fifth win over a ranked opponent this season and their first against the nation’s top-ranked team since the 2003 season. The freshman lefty faced just one over the minimum from the third through fifth innings to earn his second win of the season. Continue reading

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore right-hander Bryant Gaines struck out a career-best nine batters in six-plus innings, and All-America Dustin Ackley had two home runs among his four hits to pace No. 1 North Carolina to a 12-3 win over Appalachian State Wednesday at Boshamer Stadium. Big South Announces Preseason Baseball Poll and Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Radford senior infielder Alex Gregory (Great Falls, Va.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Nick McCully (Lakeland, Fla.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

High Point signs 15 for 2010

Head coach Craig Cozart has announced the signing of the largest recruiting class in High Point baseball history, inking 15 student-athletes during the NCAA early signing period to join the High Point baseball program next fall. The Panthers signed players from a variety of states led by Florida with four, followed up by North Carolina and New York with three apiece. Continue reading
