2013 America East Preseason Coaches Poll

AmericaEastLogoCAMBRIDGE, Mass.— After a historic run to the College World Series, reigning America East champion and back-to-back regular-season title holder Stony Brook University was picked first in the 2013 America East Preseason Coaches’ poll as determined by a vote by the league’s six head coaches who were not allowed the vote for their own teams. Hartford releases 2013 Schedule

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford baseball coach Justin Blood announced a 55-game schedule for his second season at the helm of the Hawks in 2013. Jeff Calcaterra named Assistant Coach at Hartford

Jeff Calcaterra has been named as Harvard’s top assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator by Bill Decker, the Joseph J. O’Donnell ’67 Head Coach for Harvard Baseball.

He most recently served as head coach at the University of Hartford from 2005 to 2011, winning 82 games. Prior to Hartford, Calcaterra spent 11 seasons as the full-time assistant coach at Indiana University. Read the rest of this entry »

NCBWA March 27 National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)  released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 25, today. Baylor junior first baseman Max Muncy was named National Hitter of the Week, while Hartford freshman left-hander Sean Newcomb was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

UConn’s Justin Blood set to take over Hartford Baseball

College Baseball Daily has learned that current UConn Assistant Coach Justin Blood is set to take over the Hartford University baseball program. Blood has been a key member of the UConn baseball program recent upswing including being involved in recruiting both George Springer and Matt Barnes.

Jeff Calcaterra relieved as Hartford Head Coach

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford Director of Athletics Patricia Meiser announced on Wednesday that the department will make a change in the leadership of the baseball program. Head coach Jeff Calcaterra has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately. Jerry Shank will assume the Interim Head Coaching position, while Inaki Ormaechea will remain in the role of an assistant coach. The University will immediately begin a nationwide search for Calcaterra’s successor.

2011 America East Preseason Coaches Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The Stony Brook Seawolves are the unanimous picks to win the 2011 America East Baseball Championship according to the preseason coaches’ poll and as voted on by all six of the league’s head coaches. After winning their second tournament title in three years in 2010, the Seawolves received all five possible first-place votes as head coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
