Gulf Coast CC) went 9-for-15 with four home runs, two doubles and 16 RBIs to pace a 5-0 week that included an East Division sweep of East Texas Baptist. The 5th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler Baseball team allowed just two hits in a 7-0 shutout of Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday night at Irwin Field.
UT Tyler (9-1) managed to cluster its hits on the night, scoring all seven runs in just two innings. The Patriots scored three runs off of Hardin-Simmons (4-5) in the first and four in the fourth. Continue reading →
Texas-Tyler senior outfielder Jared Hood ( Marshall, TX / MHS) went 6-for-13 with three home runs, one double and five RBIs over a 4-0 stretch that included a sweep of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Hood, who hit two long balls in one game against UMHB, scored six runs and walked twice.
In the first game, Hardin Simmons jumped out to an early lead 1-0 in the top of the first on an RBI double, but the Pirates tied it up in their half of the first on a sac fly from Michael Murphy to make it a 1-1 contest.
Murphy put Southwestern ahead in the third inning on an RBI single and Brent McMullen scored on a double play to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead. Continue reading →

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Joseph Villegas, Concordia University Texas’ Tom Williams, Hardin-Simmons University’s Kyle Barton, the University of the Ozarks’ Cory Briggs and Bruce Cameron, and UT Tyler’s Blake Booher all earned preseason individual honors.
