CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior second baseman Jemile Weeks set a new school record with his 18th career triple and freshman lefty Chris Hernandez won for the eighth time as No. 1 Miami won its 11th straight Friday night game with a 10-2 win over St. Mary’s (Calif.) in the first of a three game nonconference series at Mark Light Field. Weeks, Yonder Alonso, Dennis Raben and Adan Severino combined to go 9-for-14 with six RBI and eight runs scored as Miami (37-5) scored at least 10 runs for the 19th time season. ACC Weekend Preview for May 2nd-May 5th

Florida State at Clemson

The Florida State Seminoles head to Clemson SC for a Saturday-Monday series against the Clemson Tigers. The Seminoles enter with a 37-7 overall record while being 19-5 in the ACC. The Seminoles have been one of the better hitting teams in the country with a team batting average of .346. All-American catcher candidate Buster Posey is the top hitter on the team with a .470 average and a team leading 13 homers on the year. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore third baseman Mark Sobolewski tied a career-high with six RBI and senior right-hander Enrique Garcia tossed seven scoreless innings as No. 1 Miami (36-5, 20-2 ACC) shut out No. 16 Virginia, 10-0, completing a three-game series sweep of the Cavaliers (32-15, 13-11 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior second baseman Jemile Weeks scored the game-winning run from third on a throwing error as No.1 Miami edged out a 4-3 extra-inning victory over No. 16 Virginia Saturday night in front of a sell-out crowd of 3,000 at Mark Light Field. Miami (35-5, 19-2 ACC) clinched its 10th straight series win this season and its first against Virginia (32-14, 13-10) since 2005 when UM took two-of-three over the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman lefthander Chris Hernandez tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts in a career-long eight innings of work as No. 1 Miami recorded its first league shutout since 2006 with a 1-0 victory over No. 16 Virginia (32-13, 13-9 ACC) Friday night at Mark Light Field. Junior Blake Tekotte’s two-out single to right in the sixth scored freshman Joey Terdoslavich for the lone run of the ball game, giving Miami (34-5, 18-2 ACC) its 10th straight Friday night win to open the season. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – No. 2 North Carolina pounded out a season-high 22 hits and had five pitchers combine on a four-hit shutout in a 17-0 win over Charlotte Tuesday at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior first baseman Yonder Alonso belted two home runs including his first career grand slam and junior closer Carlos Gutierrez recorded a strikeout in the bottom of the seventh to end the game as No. 1 Miami held off No. 2 Florida State, 11-10, Sunday afternoon in a game shortened due to a travel curfew. Sophomore lefty Eric Erickson returned after a month off to pick up his sixth win for the Hurricanes (33-4, 17-2 ACC) who clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference series. FSU 9 Miami (FL) 5

Tallahassee, Fla. – In front of a record crowd of 6.789, second-ranked Florida State (34-4, 18-2 ACC) snapped a three-game losing streak to top ranked Miami (32-4, 16-2 ACC) with a 9-5 come-from-behind victory Saturday night at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles pounded out 14 hits in game two while the bullpen turned in a solid effort not allowing a run in five innings of work to even the series at a game a piece.

Jason Stidham led the offense on Saturday night as the sophomore second baseman tied a career-high with four hits including a pair of doubles. He also drove in three and scored a run in the win. Freshman Stuart Tapley went 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice while senior Dennis Guinn registered two RBIs and a double. Five of the nine Seminole runs were scored on two outs. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior second baseman Jemile Weeks collected three hits and started a 10-run sixth inning as No. 1 Miami (32-3, 16-1 ACC) rallied to knock off No. 2 Florida State, 11-4, Friday night in the first game of the Atlantic Coast Conference series in front of a Dick Howser Stadium record crowd of 6,766 fans.
