College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 24 with Georgia Southern junior RHP Chris Beck. The 6’3 220 pounder out of Jefferson Georgia attended Jefferson High School where he was a four year letter winner. He earned First Team All-Region honors in every year and was twice was named Pitcher of the Year’ in 2008 and 2009. He was selected in the 35th round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2009 draft but decided to head to Georgia Southern. Continue reading

MLB.com has put out their 2012 Top 50 Prospects. As I have been saying throughout the year, the 2012 college draft class is down with only 20 included on the list. Leading the draft class is Stanford RHP Mark Appel who had an outstanding summer with the USA National Team and in the Cape Cod Baseball League. The other two college players in the Top Five are Arizona State shortstop Deven Marrero at number 3 and Florida catcher Mike Zunino at number 5. The full list of college players are below. STATESBORO, Ga. – Head Coach Rodney Hennon released the Georgia Southern Eagles’ 2012 baseball schedule which includes 56 games and 29 home dates for the defending Southern Conference Tournament champions. The Eagles open the season with an eight game home stand, beginning on Friday, Feb. 17 when the UT Martin Skyhawks visit J.I. Clements stadium for a three-game weekend series. Continue reading

CAPE COD, Mass. – Commissioner Paul Galop has announced the 2011 Cape Cod Baseball League All-League Team.
Heading the list of positional players is CCBL Most Valuable Player Travis Jankowski (Stony Brook) of Bourne, who hit .329 with 22 RBIs for the Bourne Braves, along with batting champion Stephen Piscotty (Stanford) of Yarmouth-Dennis, who hit .349, edging out fellow All-League catcher Dane Phillips (Oklahoma State) of Chatham by a mere .0002. The Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game takes place this evening at Fenway Park. The Cape League All-Star game routinely features the best prospects for the upcoming year’s draft. This year’s All-Star game is no different then usual as many players will go in the first three rounds of the draft next season. Since the Cape Cod Baseball League announced their 2011 All-Star Game rosters on Friday, lets take a look at what conferences and college programs have had the most success this summer. The leading conference this year is the Pac-10 conference which features eight players from seven different school. Coming in second place is the SEC which has six players from four different schools. Interesting enough, the ACC and Big East conference both have four players in the game this year which speaks to how strong the the Big East over the last couple of seasons. Continue reading
