2013 Preseason Big East Coaches Poll Released

BigEastLogoPROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Louisville Cardinals, who tied for the 2012 BIG EAST regular-season title, have been tabbed as the favorites in 2013 by the league’s 11 head coaches.

The Cardinals, who advanced to the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in 2012, reaching the final of the Tucson Regional, received eight first-place votes and 98 points in the coaches’ preseason poll. Georgetown adds Two Assistant Coaches

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Baseball Coach Pete Wilk announced the additions of Phil Disher as assistant coach and Jake Wald as a volunteer assistant for the program.

2012 Big East Preseason Coaches Poll Released

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On the heels of back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship and a runner-up finish in the BIG EAST last season, St. John’s has been tabbed as the favorite to win the 2012 BIG EAST baseball championship by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Red Storm received eight of a possible 11 first-place votes in the preseason poll. The coaches also chose St. John’s outfielder Jeremy Baltz as the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and named Louisville righthanded pitcher Justin Amlung the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Georgetown adds 2 Coaches

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Baseball Coach Pete Wilk announced the addition of two coaches to his staff, with Grant Achilles taking over as an assistant coach and Mike Landry joining the program as a volunteer assistant coach.

Big East Weekend Preview (May 19th-21st)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seven teams are fighting for five remaining spots in the BIG EAST Championship as only three teams have assured themselves of postseason appearances. Connecticut is the only team that knows its fate, as the Huskies clinched their first outright BIG EAST title last week and will be the No. 1 seed at the BIG EAST Championship. Pittsburgh and St. John’s also have punched tickets to the championship. Seton Hall and USF begin the weekend tied for the eighth and final tournament spot, with USF holding the tiebreaker over the Pirates.  USF hosts Pittsburgh and Seton Hall hosts Georgetown this weekend. Notre Dame and Louisville battle in an important three-game set, with the final two games of the series televised on the CBS Sports Network. All of the BIG EAST series will begin on Thursday, with Saturday being the final day of regular-season play. Big East Weekend Preview (April 29th-May 1)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Less than half of the BIG EAST baseball season remains and Connecticut holds a two-game lead on first place. The Huskies enter the weekend with a 12-game winning streak, the longest current streak in the nation. Pittsburgh is in second place, a half-game ahead of St. John’s. The Red Storm and Panthers will battle in Pittsburgh this weekend. Last weekend, three BIG EAST pitchers tossed complete-game shutouts including St. John’s Kyle Hansen (vs. Notre Dame), Connecticut’s Matt Barnes (vs. Georgetown) and Pittsburgh’s Matt Iannazzo (vs. Rutgers). CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team earned a rain-shortened 4-0 win over Georgetown Tuesday evening at Davenport Field.
