Georgetown releases 2015 Schedule

PeteWikGeorgetownWASHINGTON – Head Coach Pete Wilk and the Georgetown University baseball team announced the schedule for the upcoming 2015 season. Highlighting the spring slate is four non-conference games against teams that participated in last season’s NCAA Tournament, including a matchup with Virginia, the 2014 College World Series runners-up.

The Hoyas will open the year the same way they did last season, with three games in Winston-Salem, N.C., on the weekend of February 13-15. Taking part in the Wake Forest Invitational, GU will start the season against VCU, a team that went 37-20 out of the Atlantic 10 last year. 2014 Big East Preseason Conference Poll

BigEastLogoNEW YORK, N.Y. – Creighton, one of three conference newcomers this season, is the narrow favorite in BIG EAST baseball in 2014, according to the coaches poll announced on Thursday. The Bluejays claimed a poll-topping 32 points with two first-place votes, edging out Seton Hall and St. John’s for No. 1.

There was more good news for Creighton, as a league-high four players earned Preseason All-BIG EAST honors. Among them were senior outfielder Mike Gerber, who was named the Preseason Player of the Year, and sophomore hurler Tommy Strunc, who picked up Preseason Pitcher of the Year accolades. Georgetown releases 2014 Schedule

PeteWikGeorgetownWASHINGTON – Head Coach Pete Wilk and the Georgetown University baseball team have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. The Hoyas will play close to 50 games this spring, including 19 home games at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.

The 2014 season features an updated BIG EAST conference, with four of last season’s top five teams – Louisville, Pittsburgh, South Florida and Rutgers – all gone with several programs – Xavier, Creighton and Butler – all joining the conference. Continue reading Georgetown releases 2014 Schedule

2013 Preseason Big East Coaches Poll Released

BigEastLogoPROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Louisville Cardinals, who tied for the 2012 BIG EAST regular-season title, have been tabbed as the favorites in 2013 by the league’s 11 head coaches.

The Cardinals, who advanced to the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in 2012, reaching the final of the Tucson Regional, received eight first-place votes and 98 points in the coaches’ preseason poll. Georgetown adds Two Assistant Coaches

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Baseball Coach Pete Wilk announced the additions of Phil Disher as assistant coach and Jake Wald as a volunteer assistant for the program.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – This weekend marks the opening weekend of BIG EAST baseball conference play, with 18 games scheduled for Friday-Sunday. 2012 Big East Preseason Coaches Poll Released

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On the heels of back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship and a runner-up finish in the BIG EAST last season, St. John’s has been tabbed as the favorite to win the 2012 BIG EAST baseball championship by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Red Storm received eight of a possible 11 first-place votes in the preseason poll. The coaches also chose St. John’s outfielder Jeremy Baltz as the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and named Louisville righthanded pitcher Justin Amlung the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
