George Washington Head Coach Steve Mrowka will not Return

WASHINGTON – The George Washington University Department of Athletics and Recreation announced today that GW Baseball Head Coach Steve Mrowka will not return to the Colonials next season.

“We want to thank Steve for his eight seasons as coach of our baseball program,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. “He was always a model of professionalism.” Continue reading


2012 Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Defending champion Charlotte has been tabbed to claim its third-straight Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball title in 2012, according to a vote of the league’s 13 head coaches. Rhode Island and Dayton round out the top three, respectively.  Continue reading


George Washington releases 2012 Schedule

WASHINGTON – George Washington baseball head coach Steve Mrowka announced that the Colonials will host 25 games at newly renovated Barcroft Park in Arlington Va., as part of a 54-game schedule in 2012.

GW will open the season with a 10-game road trip, visiting Stetson for three games from Feb. 17-19, a three-game series with Army in Petersburg, Va. from Feb. 24-26 and visits to Duke (March 2-4) and William & Mary (March 7). Continue reading


George Washington renovations to Barcroft Park underway

ARLINGTON, Va. – The first phase of the multi-million dollar renovation to Barcroft Park, the home field of the George Washington baseball team, is underway. Initial demolition is complete and construction has commenced in preparation for the 2012 season.

The existing structure, including the dugouts, backstop, fencing and scoreboard, has been demolished and the initial stages of artificial turf installation has begun. The venue is expected to be completed in Spring, 2012. Continue reading


George Washington gets a New Home

GW baseball’s home field in Arlington, Va., will be getting a major facelift before the start of the Colonials’ season.

Baseball Field #6 at Barcroft Park, a 65-acre park at 4200 South Four Mile Run Drive, will receive new turf, stadium seating and other amenities through a partnership between GW and the Arlington County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department (PRCR). Continue reading


Foley’s Quick Hits for March 29th

Here are some of my thoughts from college baseball action that took place on March 29th.

  • Congrats to Will Roberts of Virginia for throwing a perfect game on Tuesday against the George Washington Colonials. Roberts struck out 10 batters getting three flyouts and 14 groundouts. The perfect game was only the 19th in NCAA Division 1 baseball history at any length and the first by a UVA pitcher in school history. It was also the first in Division 1 since 2002. Interesting enough, the second to last sentence of the George Washington press release is the first mention they make about the perfect game being tossed.  Continue reading

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Will Roberts (Jr., Richmond, Va.) recorded the eighth nine-inning perfect game in NCAA Division I baseball (since 1957) to lead the top-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 2-0 victory over George Washington Tuesday at Davenport Field. Roberts recorded 27 straight outs and needed just 98 pitches to earn the second perfect game in ACC history. Continue reading
