2013 Big South Preseason Conference Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty’s and Coastal Carolina’s baseball programs have been chosen as the favorites in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason poll for the 2013 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Campbell’s Michael Felton and Jeff Kemp of Radford the Conference’s Preseason Co-Players of the Year, while Aaron Burke of Coastal Carolina was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Gardner-Webb releases 2013 Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb announced its 2013 baseball schedule Tuesday, with 13 games on tap against teams that participated in last season’s NCAA Regionals.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs open the season against Atlantic 10 champion Dayton on February 15 at John Henry Moss Stadium / Bill Masters Field, battling the Flyers in a four-game series. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Preseason Big South Coaches Poll Released

(www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fifth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Presbyterian sophomore catcher/first baseman Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Josh Conway (Smithsburg, Md.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year. UCF 14 #7 Florida State 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Senior Jonathan Griffin’s mammoth grand slam capped off a seven-run seventh in UCF’s wild 14-10 victory at No. 6 Florida State (35-12) Saturday. It was the Knights’ (29-18) third victory against a top-10 team this season (defeated top-five Florida twice), and they now have seven victories over ranked opponents on the year, which are the most since the 2004 roster also produced seven wins. NCBWA Names Pro-Line Athletic National Players of the Week (March 15th)

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 14, today. Gardner-Webb redshirt junior first baseman/DH Dusty Quattlebaum was named National Hitter of the Week, while Baylor junior right-hander Logan Verrett was named National Pitcher of the Week. St. John’s and Gardner Webb Series Finale Cancelled

According to The Star, The Newspaper of Cleveland County, a parent from Gardner-Webb and St. John’s got into an argument which forced a police officer to respond to the scene. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Big South

The Big South was dominated last year by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers as they went a perfect 25-0 on their way to the conference regular season title. The Liberty Flames came in second with a 19-8 conference mark. Radford finished in third place with a 15-11 record in the conference only a ½ game ahead of High Point for third place. VMI and Winthrop tied for fifth place with a 13-14 record while Gardner-Webb and UNC-Asheville tied for seventh with a 10-17 mark. Presbyterian College finished in ninth place with a 7-20 record while Charleston Southern rounded out of the conference with a 6-20 record. Read the rest of this entry »
