2014 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll

(www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty and Coastal Carolina have been chosen as the favorites for the second-straight year in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason baseball poll for the 2014 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Charleston Southern’s Bobby Ison the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, while Ryan Thompson of Campbell was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Gardner-Webb releases 2013 Schedule

GardnerWebbBaseballBOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb announced its 2013 baseball schedule Tuesday, with 13 games on tap against teams that participated in last season’s NCAA Regionals.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs open the season against Atlantic 10 champion Dayton on February 15 at John Henry Moss Stadium / Bill Masters Field, battling the Flyers in a four-game series. Continue reading

2012 Preseason Big South Coaches Poll Released

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fifth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Presbyterian sophomore catcher/first baseman Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Josh Conway (Smithsburg, Md.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Senior Jonathan Griffin’s mammoth grand slam capped off a seven-run seventh in UCF’s wild 14-10 victory at No. 6 Florida State (35-12) Saturday. It was the Knights’ (29-18) third victory against a top-10 team this season (defeated top-five Florida twice), and they now have seven victories over ranked opponents on the year, which are the most since the 2004 roster also produced seven wins. NCBWA Names Pro-Line Athletic National Players of the Week (March 15th)

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 14, today. Gardner-Webb redshirt junior first baseman/DH Dusty Quattlebaum was named National Hitter of the Week, while Baylor junior right-hander Logan Verrett was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

St. John’s and Gardner Webb Series Finale Cancelled

UPDATE #1 at 3AM Eastern on March 15th.

According to The Star, The Newspaper of Cleveland County, a parent from Gardner-Webb and St. John’s got into an argument which forced a police officer to respond to the scene.
