DENVER – Fresno State has been selected as the favorite to win the 2012 Western Athletic Conference regular season baseball crown in a vote by the league’s seven head coaches. The coaches also voted on a preseason all-WAC team with New Mexico State leading the way as it placed five players on the team. New Mexico State junior catcher Zac Fisher was named the preseason player of the year, while San Jose State junior Zack Jones was picked the preseason pitcher of the year. Continue reading

Baseball America has released their 2011-2012 Recruiting Class rankings for the class that will be eligible for the start of the 2012 season. Leading the pack is the Vanderbilt Commodores which got a first round pick in Tyler Beede among other talented players to Nashville. The rest of the top five is filled out by Texas, Southern Miss, NC State, and Ole Miss.

UC Irvine defeated Fresno State and San Francisco upended host UCLA, as both lower seeds advanced to the winner’s game on Saturday evening in Westwood.
I had a chance to catch up to a couple of coaches across the country for their thoughts on the NCAA Tournament. One of the biggest stories from them is how wide open the field is this season.
