CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ben Bunting posted career highs of three hits and three RBI, and Levi Michael and Mark Fleury belted home runs in No. 1 North Carolina’s 10-3 win over Seton Hall Saturday at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – All-America right-hander Alex White worked 6 1/3 strong innings, and five different Tar Heels drove in a run to pace No. 1 North Carolina past Seton Hall, 5-1, Friday in the series opener at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium. PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Coming off consecutive 40-win seasons and conference titles, Charlotte has been picked to win the 2009 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches as the A-10’s preseason poll was released today. Continue reading

Fordham releases 2009 Schedule

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham baseball head coach Nick Restaino announced the team’s 2009 schedule today, as the Rams celebrate the 150th anniversary of the very first Fordham baseball team, which started play in 1859.

Except for 1944, the Fordham baseball program has played every year since 1859 and stands as the winningest program in NCAA history. The Rams, then known as the “Rose Hills”, started play on November 3, 1859, against St. Francis Xavier, in the first known collegiate baseball game to use nine players. In this anniversary season, the Rams will be competing for their fourth Atlantic 10 Championship tournament berth in the last six years. Continue reading

Fordham signs six for 2010 season

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham Head Baseball Coach Nick Restaino announced the addition of six student-athletes to the Fordham University baseball roster, starting with the 2010 season. The six student athletes are pitcher Jeremy Adel (Newberry, Fla./St. Francis), pitcher Rich Anastasi (Waldwick, N.J./St. Joseph’s Montvale), pitcher Joseph Charest (Swansea, Mass./La Salle Academy (RI)), pitcher Ryan Demartino (Clifton, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy), outfielder Ryan Lee (Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan), and first baseman/pitcher Dan Sorine (Scarsdale, N.Y./Eastchester), Continue reading

Georgetown Baseball Announces Incoming Recruiting Class

– Head Coach Pete Wilk announced that Georgetown Baseball will be welcoming eight new players to the fold this upcoming season. Billy Cosmopulous, Nick Geary, Will Harris, Alex Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Bobby Kirby, Andy Lentz and Rand Ravnaas comprise the incoming class that will try and help the Hoyas move up in the BIG EAST pecking order.

Louisville, East Carolina, Bama, South Florida, and Hofstra pick up wins

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tyler Mickits hit a two-run home run and Matt Lea, Neil Holland and Zack Pitts combined on a three-hit shutout, as the University of Louisville Cardinals blanked Morehead State 2-0 Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.

After catcher Jeff Arnold reached on an infield single to lead off the fifth inning and moved to third on a throwing error, Mickits belted his first home run of the season deep to right center to put the Cards (27-16) on top 2-0 for the only scoring of the game. Continue reading

CSTV previews A-10 and America East

CSTV contributor Eric Sorenson checks in with two conferences previews in the Atlantic 10 and America East. In the Atlantic 10, he lists Charlotte as the clear favorite with Richmond, Fordham, and St. Bonaventure as contenders. His darkhorse in the conference is Xavier.
