2014 Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll

Atlantic10_Main_LogoNEWPORT NEWS, VA – Reigning champion Saint Louis has been picked atop the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.

SLU received 11 of the 12 first-place votes for 143 points. VCU nabbed the remaining first-place nod and a total of 122 points which was good for second-place, two points better than Rhode Island which placed third.  Richmond was slotted in fourth-place with 104 points, followed by the A-10’s newest member George Mason in fifth with 90 points.

Saint Joseph’s (81 pts.) and George Washington (68 pts.) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, followed by La Salle (60 pts.), Fordham (43 pts.), Dayton (40 pts.), Massachusetts (36 pts.) and St. Bonaventure (29 pts.). Continue reading

Fordham releases 2013 Schedule

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham baseball head coach Kevin Leighton announced the team’s 2013 schedule today, which will feature the first-ever Frankie Frisch Invitational, hosted at Fordham’s Houlihan Park, as well as games against Michigan, Wichita State, Georgia State, and 2012 College World Series participant, Stony Brook. Here is a listing of Fall Ball Recaps from the last couple of days around College Baseball.

Purdue: Black 11 Gold 10

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An early 8-0 lead helped the Black team withstand a valiant comeback effort and earn an 11-10 victory in game two of Purdue baseball’s Black & Gold Series Friday afternoon at Lambert Field.

The win allowed the Black team to a two games to none lead in the five-game fall series. Game three is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. Continue reading

Fordham completes 2012 Coaching Staff

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham baseball coach Kevin Leighton announced his coaching staff for the 2012 season, hiring former Siena assistant coach Jimmy Jackson as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, while retaining the services of Assistant Coach Jerry DeFabbia, Volunteer Assistant Coach Joe Mandile, and Director of Baseball Operations Tony Mellaci from last year’s coaching staff. Fordham Set To Hire Manhattan’s Kevin Leighton

According to CBD sources, Manhattan’s Kevin Leighton will be named head coach at Fordham on Monday.  Leighton replaces Nick Restaino who left the program at the end of the 2011 season to pursue other opportunities.  Leighton has a career coaching record of 200-119-1 in six seasons at Manhattan including MAAC regular season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011 along with MAAC tournament titles in 2006 and 2011. Nick Restaino will not Return to Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham University Executive Director of Athletics Frank McLaughlin announced today that head baseball coach Nick Restaino has decided to pursue other opportunities and will not return for the 2011-12 season.

“We are extremely thankful for Nick’s hard work and dedication to the Fordham baseball program,” said McLaughlin. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.” Continue reading
