Florida Gulf Coast projected starting center fielder and closer Brady Anderson will miss the 2013 college baseball season with a torn ACL and meniscus according to a report in the Naples Daily News. Anderson hit .248 in 31 games while driving in 14 runs last season. On the mound, Anderson pitched in 20 games including three starts going 1-7 including four saves and having a 4.08 ERA. MACON, Ga. – For the second time in the past three seasons, FGCU and Mercer shared the top spot in the Atlantic Sun Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll. The two teams previously tied in the 2011 poll. RADFORD, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team scored eight runs in the first two innings and never looked back in coasting to a 12-0 victory over Radford Tuesday evening at RU Baseball Stadium in Radford, Va. With the shutout win the Cavaliers broke the ACC single-season record for shutouts with their 12th shutout of the year; the record was held by the 1977 Clemson and 2005 Virginia teams. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt freshman David Trexler earned his first career victory as No. 7 Florida State rolled past Valdosta State, 10-2 at Dick Howser Stadium.
In a pre-arranged controlled start, Trexler (1-0) tossed three innings of shutout baseball, surrendering only a pair of infield singles. The lanky right-hander established a new career high with four strikeouts in his second start and fifth appearance. He did not issue a walk. Continue reading
