2011 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues and Team USA

DURHAM, N.C.–The Southeastern Conference, which has produced college baseball’s last three national champions, dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 20 college summer leagues and Team USA, which have been released at BaseballAmerica.com. The SEC leads all conferences with 24 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (22 players), the Big 12 (18 players) and the Atlantic Coast (17). 2011 Florida Collegiate League All-Star Game Rosters Released

The Florida League announces the 2011 Florida League All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 12 at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium. This past week, coaches and league officials voted on the players who they believe have shined the brightest through the first half of the summer. The ballots are in and the 2011 Florida League All-Stars have been selected.

Some of the notable selections for the two All-Star teams are Leesburg’s Thomas Sicking (Texas Pan-American) who leads the Florida League in hitting (.423 avg, 11 RBI), Winter Park’s Teddy Blackman (Coastal Carolina: .377 avg, .563 obp, 14 SB), the Florida League’s leader in wins, Jeremy Strawn (State College of Florida: 3-0, 2.02 ERA), and Nic Kovacs (Lake Sumter: 2-1, 13:1 strikeout to walk ratio). 2010 Baseball America Top Prospects for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmericaCover DURHAM, N.C.–The Pacific-10 Conference dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 summer college leagues and Team USA, which have been posted at BaseballAmerica.com. The Pac-10 leads all conferences with 30 players on the lists and six players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues.

Leesburg and Winter Park set to face off in Florida League Championship

FCSLLogo After two relatively quick playoff series, the #3 seed Leesburg Lightning will meet the #1 Winter Park Diamond Dawgs for the 2010 Florida League Championship at Tropicana Field. The Lightning will be returning to the game for the third time in the past four years, winning the championship in 2007 as well as last season, 2009.  For the Diamond Dawgs, this is the first time they will be back since 2006 when they won it all.  The Dawgs have had an amazing turnaround after winning only ten games all of last season and are currently ranked 20th in the nation across all summer leagues according to PG Crosschecker.  The game will begin after the 12:10 PM game between the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays, with 5:00 PM as an estimated start time.

Baseball America releases Top Prospects Lists for Summer Leagues and Team USA

BaseballAmerica DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.

BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

Ezekiel Wins Florida Collegiate Summer League Home Run Derby

EASTON, Pa. – Joe Ezekiel, currently playing for the Leesburg Lightning of the Florida Collegiate Summer League (FCSL), won the league’s Home Run Derby at the July 20 All-Star Game in Sanford, Fla.

Ezekiel hit a combined 13 homers to defeat the Diamond Dawgs’ Steve Sabins. He hit six home runs in first round to tie for the lead and went on to defeat Sabins 7-4 in the head-to-head final round.
