The SEC leads all conferences with 24 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (22 players), the Big 12 (18 players) and the Atlantic Coast (17). FROM CBD NEWS SOURCE The Florida League announces the 2011 Florida League All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 12 at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium. This past week, coaches and league officials voted on the players who they believe have shined the brightest through the first half of the summer. The ballots are in and the 2011 Florida League All-Stars have been selected.
Some of the notable selections for the two All-Star teams are Leesburg’s Thomas Sicking (Texas Pan-American) who leads the Florida League in hitting (.423 avg, 11 RBI), Winter Park’s Teddy Blackman (Coastal Carolina: .377 avg, .563 obp, 14 SB), the Florida League’s leader in wins, Jeremy Strawn (State College of Florida: 3-0, 2.02 ERA), and Nic Kovacs (Lake Sumter: 2-1, 13:1 strikeout to walk ratio). DURHAM, N.C.–The Pacific-10 Conference dominated Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 summer college leagues and Team USA, which have been posted at BaseballAmerica.com. The Pac-10 leads all conferences with 30 players on the lists and six players ranking as the No. 1 prospects in their respective leagues.
After two relatively quick playoff series, the #3 seed Leesburg Lightning will meet the #1 Winter Park Diamond Dawgs for the 2010 Florida League Championship at Tropicana Field. The Lightning will be returning to the game for the third time in the past four years, winning the championship in 2007 as well as last season, 2009. For the Diamond Dawgs, this is the first time they will be back since 2006 when they won it all. The Dawgs have had an amazing turnaround after winning only ten games all of last season and are currently ranked 20th in the nation across all summer leagues according to PG Crosschecker. The game will begin after the 12:10 PM game between the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays, with 5:00 PM as an estimated start time.
DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.
BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.
