College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 78 with Texas sophomore infielder Erich Weiss. The Brenham, Texas native attended Brenham High School where he was a two year letter winner at shortstop and second base. As a senior, he hit .470 and scored 50 runs, 39 RBI, 15 doubles, four triples and three home runs as he helped the team to the State Class 4-A baseball Championship. He was also named first-team All-District 18-4A and first-team All-State Class 4A by both the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Texas Sports Writers Association respectively. We enter the third weekend of action in College Baseball today with a couple of good tournaments and series around the country. Sr. Writer William Knox will be in Austin TX this weekend covering the Stanford vs Texas series while Assistant Editor Mark Rafferty is flying down to San Diego to cover the University of San Diego tournament. Both Sr. Writer Katherine Cornetta and Editor Brian Foley will be in the CBD East Coast office running the twitter and answering questions on twitter. Another day is in the books as we are now two days into the season as there was several upsets in the NCBWA Top 35.
