Western Major Baseball League Recap for July 13th

Western Major Baseball LeagueThe Okotoks Dawgs continue to lead the West Division with a 22-10 record. The Dawgs lost road games to the Regina Red Sox and the Medicine Hat Mavericks, then won two home games against the Moose Jaw Miller Express, 14-3 and 6-4. The games against Moose Jaw drew crowds of 1,864 and 1,793. In the 6-4 win, the Dawgs scored five runs in the second inning on an RBI double by C Brett Thomas (California), a two-RBI single by 2B Matt Hart (Santa Ana College), an RBI single by RF Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State), and a sacrifice fly by CF Jeremy Shelby (Grambling State). Cros’ RBI was the winning run, and Marc Wilson (Campbellsville) got the win, his first of the season. Cros leads the team with a .405 batting average, and a .553 on-base percentage. Dan Britton-Foster (British Columbia) is the leading pitcher for the Dawgs, with a record of 3-0, 1.12 ERA. Continue reading

Western Major Baseball League recap for July 6

WMBL logoThe Okotoks Dawgs lead the West Division with a 19-8 record. They defeated the Melville Millionaires 8-3 and 6-4, and the Yorkton Cardinals 6-2 over the weekend. Mark Phillips (Colby College), Logan Todd (Merced College), and Danny Britton-Foster (British Columbia) got the wins. Britton-Foster leads the team with a record of 3-0, 1.16 ERA. Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State) leads the league in hitting with a .436 average, and he also leads the team with 30 RBI. Continue reading

NAIA National Championship Recap for May 23

Results from Day 2 of the NAIA Baseball National Championship in Lewiston, ID:

Southern Polytechnic 6, Campbellsville 5 (Campbellsville eliminated)

Southern Polytechnic, who came into the tournament ranked #5, got a home run in the top of the ninth by CF Josh Grooms to avoid a two-and-out exit. The Hornets trailed 4-3 going into the seventh, but they scored two runs in the top of the seventh on sacrifice flies by Grooms and DH Daniel Hester to take the lead for good. Grooms batted in four of the Hornets’ six runs.

NAIA National Championship Recap for May 22

Results from Day 1 of the NAIA Baseball National Championship in Lewiston, ID:

Lee 5, Campbellsville 2

The Flames got a two-run home run by 1B Chris Warters in the top of the first inning, and the winning run on a solo home run by C Chris Dubon in the top of the second. DH Junior Rodriguez added a solo home run in the fourth, and RF Julian Alvarez hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.

Flames starter Matthew Gilson went 6 2/3 innings, allowed two runs (one of them walked in) on seven hits, struck out five, and walked four. Reliever Josh Rose retired all seven batters he faced, and struck out four of them. Continue reading

Results from the third day of the first-ever NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, for May 14:

At Lubbock, TX:

#1 Lubbock Christian was upset by #18 Wayland Baptist 6-2. Marcus Limon pitched a complete game for the Pioneers, scattered nine hits, struck out 14. The Chaparrals’ starter, Jakob Cunningham, also went the distance, allowed eight hits, struck out nine. Continue reading

Results from first day of the first-ever NAIA sectional tournaments, officially the Baseball National Championship Opening Round, for May 12:

At Lubbock, TX:

#1 Lubbock Christian picked up where they left off in the regular season, defeating William Jewell 28-2. The Chaparrals scored seven runs in the second inning, and 18 runs in the eighth inning. William Jewell used six pitchers.

#18 Wayland Baptist defeated Northwood (TX) 8-6. Continue reading

NAIA conference tournament recap for May 6

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 Point Loma Nazarene defeated #11 Fresno Pacific 3-2 (12 innings). SS Tyler Kuehl singled in the winning run for the Sea Lions. Steven Winnick pitched four hitless innings in relief for the win. #24 The Master’s then took Fresno Pacific out of the tournament with a 6-5 win. Point Loma Nazarene and The Master’s play for the championship in Thursday.

Sun Conference – at Fort Myers, FL: #7 Embry-Riddle defeated Savannah College of Art and Design 11-4 for the championship. Joel Blomberg and Austin Goolsby hit home runs for the Eagles. Continue reading

Sooner Athletic Conference: The entire tournament was cancelled due to bad weather. Both #1 Lubbock Christian and #2 Oklahoma City are hosting sectional tournaments next week.

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 PointLoma Nazarene defeated #24 The Master’s 4-0. Andrew Bovich pitched eight shutout innings for the Sea Lions, and Kurt Steinhauer hit two home runs. #11 Fresno Pacific defeated Biola 15-12.
