Eastern Kentucky names Edwin Thompson as Head Coach

rp_primary_Edwin_Thompson_Web_RICHMOND, Ky. – Edwin Thompson, who in the last five seasons has recruited and coached 11 All-Americans and 24 players who went on to play professional baseball, has been chosen as the new head baseball coach at Eastern Kentucky University.

Thompson spent the last three seasons at Georgia State University. He served as the pitching coach for the Panthers in 2013 and 2014 before being promoted to Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Coordinator before the 2015 season. Sunday Roundup (2/23)

Sunday’s action saw Cal Poly get a pivotal series-clinching win in the rubber game over UCLA 9-1. The victory was huge for the Mustangs, who dropped the first game on Friday only to show a lot of character and bounce back with two straight wins on the road to take the series. Offensively Nick Torres and Brian Mundell continued to be the story as the duo combined for five hits and five RBI on the day. In additional voting TTU senior first baseman Zach Stephens was named OVC Preseason Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season while Jacksonville State closer Travis Stout was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Eastern Kentucky releases 2014 Schedule

EKUBaseballRICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University is scheduled to play nine baseball games against teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament, head coach Jason Stein announced today with the release of the complete 2014 schedule.

Those NCAA Tournament teams are Louisville, South Carolina, East Tennessee and Austin Peay. Louisville advanced all the way to the College World Series. Ohio Valley Conference to play Fridays-Sundays in 2012

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference has announced a change to the format of its Conference regular season series for baseball starting with the 2012 season.

Currently the OVC plays a three-game series spread over two days, with the teams playing a doubleheader on Saturday (with one of those games being a 7-inning game, the other a 9-inning affair) and a single 9-inning game on Sunday.
